Details are slim at this point, but Destiny 2's developer Bungie is promising its competitive fans that ranked PvP has been placed at the top of its priority list, saying it will make its appearance at some point in 2018. It is among many features that Bungie says it is working on to improve Destiny 2 in light of the negative feedback the studio has received since launch.

Ranked PvP is a feature many competitive Destiny players have been requesting since before launch. Bungie even acknowledged the desire for some sort of ranking system in PvP although the game's directors were not willing to commit to any kind of timetable for when such a feature would be added to the game.

Ranked play has been so coveted because it adds a new dynamic to PvP and gives Crucible fans something to grind for. While PvE players try to complete raids and Nightfall Strikes, PvP players can try to rise up the leaderboards. Presumably, there would also be rewards for hitting certain ranks but that's just speculation at this point.

Fortunately, for those who want ranked play in Destiny 2, Bungie has now made an official statement saying that it is a top priority:

We are also moving Ranked PVP to the top of our priority list for next year to support the competitive community

Unfortunately, "next year" is very vague and Bungie has been coy to commit to any kind of launch window. It's unlikely that ranked PvP will appear in early 2018 as the game is set to receive private matches during that timeframe. Ranked play could be on the table for the game's second expansion scheduled for spring 2018, but that will remain unconfirmed until Bungie announces such a plan.

The information about ranked PvP came as part of a blog post Bungie put out today detailing many of the changes coming to Destiny 2 in early December's two updates, as well as some hints of what is to come in the game's future. The first update launches alongside the Curse of Osiris expansion on December 5.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
