Those that are familiar with Destiny player Datto (of DattoDoesDestiny fame) know that he and his clan, Math class, love to run unique raid challenges. Back during Destiny 1, Datto and his friends would attempt self-imposed challenges like beating the raid using specific weapons or only using specific subclasses.

Since the enthusiasm surrounding Destiny 2 has not been as strong, Datto has not run as many challenges, but there have been a few. However, he chose to save one of his more interesting Leviathan raid challenges for a special occasion.

In the below video, Datto and his fireteam complete the entire Leviathan raid using mostly Wardcliff Coil. There is the rare spot where the team needed to use a different weapon, but for the most part this is a Wardcliff Coil raid run.

The obvious question after seeing the challenge run is why Datto waited to post the video until now, but he has a good reason. Because it is only possible to get inordinate amounts of Wardcliff Coil ammo by way of a glitch, Datto did not want to highlight its use until Bungie fixed it. Now that Bungie has removed the Wardcliff Coil glitch he can show what the exotic rocket launcher can do.

The glitch, for those that may not be familiar, used quick spamming of crouch while firing the Wardcliff Coil to load the rocket launched with additional rockets instead of draining its ammo. That’s why the fireteam starts off with 800+ rockets.

Interestingly enough, unlimited ammo for the Wardcliff Coil makes any damage-focused encounter in the Leviathan raid a cakewalk. Tackling the Royal Pools or the Pleasure Gardens hunt is a breeze, even on the Prestige difficulty. Where the limitation became a problem was in the Gauntlet section of the raid, since precise shots are necessary for completing the encounter. Specifically, shooting the correct arrow is kind of tricky with a rocket launcher that sprays tiny rockets all over the place.

Ultimately, this type of run could only be achieved with a glitch, but it’s fun to see how the Wardcliff Coil can make quick work of most enemies but pose a challenge in other encounters. But given how the ammo economy works in Destiny 2 it is unlikely we will see more challenges like this focused on power weapons…at least not until Bungie adjusts some things.

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
