After a rollercoaster of a first year, Destiny 2 has begun the evolution into its second year with the massive expansion Forsaken arriving next week. Yesterday, the highly anticipated sandbox update went live to all players and brought about sweeping changes to the game that updates and changes nearly every aspect of the experience from the Crucible and economy, to loot and gear as well. Raids were also a focus of Update 2.0 and it may just fundamentally change how fireteams approach situations.

Taking to Twitter, Destiny 2 raid team leader Joe Blackburn wanted to offer a bit more information to players who saw a few changes to raid mechanics in the latest sandbox update. Now, fireteams have 2 minutes and thirty seconds to revive fallen teammates inside of a Raid encounter. While the timer refreshes if a fireteam completely wipes, each player also has one token that can be used to revive a teammate. It's the studio's hope that the new system provides opportunities for teams to pull out a win even when they're starting to fall apart.

The intention behind this change is to provide players with an opportunity to perform a heroic moment by carrying the team to victory by killing a boss like Calus while the team is dead. Blackburn admitted that the ideas started to form at the much-discussed community summit held a few months ago and resulted in the team trying to find a way to fix the feeling of being in a timeout while dead. Part of the solution was the new 2:30 second timer and revive tokens, though Blackburn stresses that Bungie is listening to feedback and that this is only a starting point long term.

While players can put these updates to the test in the Leviathan and its Raid encounters, fans will have to wait until September 14 to try it out within the newest raid encounter, Last Wish. As the second major raid to be added to the game, Last Wish tasks players with delving into the heart of the Dreaming City where a dangerous beast supposedly lurks. Speculation points to the possibility of an Ahamkara being at the heart of the city, Destiny's version of a race of dragons who are known to grant wishes for a price.

Destiny 2: Forsaken launches September 4 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
