Destiny 2's new Root of Nightmares raid sets an all-time new record for the entire franchise, surpassing stats held by iconic raids such as Vault of Glass, Leviathan, and King's Fall. Endgame activity engagement in Destiny 2 appears to be on the rise since the launch of Lightfall as players desire another challenge after completing the Legendary campaign.

After completing the Lightfall campaign on normal or Legendary difficulty, Destiny 2 players may tackle seasonal activities during Season of Defiance or team up with others in the Root of Nightmares raid. The new raid offers high-level loot drops including armor and new Strand weapons, and some lucky players may even obtain the new Conditional Finality Exotic shotgun. Root of Nightmares appears to be one of the most successful raid launches of all time, enticing many Destiny 2 players to this endgame activity during its first day.

Destiny Raid Report reveals Destiny 2's Root of Nightmares raid set a new record for day one clears with nearly 90,000 players completing the raid within 24 hours of its launch on March 10. This is nearly triple the amount held by the previous all-time record holder, which was the Deep Stone Crypt raid at 29,253 day one clears. Additionally, Root of Nightmares has more day one clears than all other raids combined across the entire Destiny franchise. These raids include Vow of the Disciple, Garden of Salvation, Eater of Worlds, Last Wish, Scourge of the Past, and Wrath of the Machine.

The Destiny 2 Raid Report also reveals high success rates for Root of Nightmares over 24-hour and 48-hour periods following the raid's launch. Over 1 in 4 players that participated in Root of Nightmares have cleared the raid within just 24 hours, and nearly 45% of players that participated in the raid cleared it within 48 hours after launch. These raid engagement stats are the highest Destiny 2 has ever tracked within a two-day period.

Root of Nightmares' historic launch appears to show vast growth in overall player engagement following the release of Destiny 2's Lightfall expansion. These stats completely trounce the previous record holder for day one raid clears, suggesting that more Destiny 2 players than ever before are interested in clearing endgame activities. Moreover, Bungie's approach to offering challenging experiences while streamlining high-level content may be paying off greatly for the player base.

Some Destiny 2 players believe that raids should be challenging enough to where only a select few are able to complete it on day one, however. The race to world's first was quickly won, and some players managed to flawlessly complete the Root of Nightmares raid while Contest Mode was still active. At the very least, thousands of players were able to experience the new Destiny 2 raid after purchasing the Lightfall expansion and witnessing what the story has to offer.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.
