Destiny 2 is a game with many great aspects. Its dedicated fanbase has been able to enjoy a long narrative over the past couple of seasons while Trials of Osiris got matchmaking and an overhaul to be more accessible. In many ways the game has been trending upward since the Forsaken expansion, but some quality-of-life improvements could still be made.

Some parts of Destiny 2 feel limiting and redundant. These aspects interrupt the enjoyment players can get out of the game, and in some cases seem to punish dedicated players who enjoy the grind for some of the game’s most difficult activities. Some quality-of-life changes would be nice to see in Destiny 2 over the next year.

Change Currency Caps

destiny 2 glimmer cap increase

One thing players have wanted for a long time is the elimination of Destiny 2’s glimmer cap. The currency currently has a maximum cap of 250,000. This might seem like a lot, but it can easily be drained when acquiring gear from the Monument to Lost Lights or gathering crafting and upgrade materials. With the addition of weapon crafting in The Witch Queen expansion, this is something that should be addressed sooner than later.

Another thing that should change is the cap on upgrade materials that players can carry. While not as glaring as the glimmer cap in Destiny 2, limiting how many Enhancement Prisms, Ascendant Shards, and Upgrade Modules players can hold feels counterintuitive. While more casual fans might not view these items or glimmer as something they should be able to carry more of, players who run Grandmaster Nightfall strikes and raids can attest how these items stack up with no reliable way to store them.

Upgrade the Vault

Destiny 2 should also look into upgrading the vault that players use for gear. As a looter-shooter, there is a lot of gear that players can collect. Weapons, armor, sparrows, ghosts, and ships all take up room that the vault doesn’t have at its disposal. On top of this, the vault can be an organizational nightmare, only rivaled by trying to sift through Destiny 2's cosmetics in collections.

Even though the vault in Destiny 2 only has limited space, it can be difficult to find certain pieces of gear. Since there are no tabs for armor, weapons, and miscellaneous items that players put in the vault, there’s no real way to go searching for a specific piece of gear. With three possible characters able to be played in Destiny 2, this can become a chore, especially when trying to find a piece of gear that may have been stored weeks ago for a character that wasn’t being played. This can even influence some of Destiny 2's single-player experience when working through campaigns.

Adding filter options to Destiny 2’s vault would be a great way to manage this. Separating gear in the vault by type would be a start, but even better would be separations by class. Looking for a specific piece of Titan armor or special weapons that are elemental or kinetic could become a breeze by giving the vault a filter. The time needed to swap armor could be decreased greatly, and doing things like getting a top-tier exotic weapon for the season could be done even faster.

More Inventory Space

Destiny 2 UI Loadout Concept

Destiny 2 should also improve the inventory space that players have on each character. Currently, up to ten pieces of gear for each slot can be held at a time, including the piece that is currently equipped. Upping this to 13 pieces so players can carry 12 pieces of gear plus whatever is equipped would be a great way to let players keep going without having to visit the Tower as often.

With just ten pieces of gear, doing multiple strikes or playing through the PvP playlists can fill up the available space on a character. While missed loot is sent to the Postmaster, there’s only so much space available there, requiring players to leave activities if they’re full. Many times this won’t be a problem, but if double rewards are active on a playlist after the weekly reset in Destiny 2, players can quickly find themselves out of space on their character and in the Postmaster.

Dismantling Gear in Destiny 2

Players should also be allowed to dismantle more than one item at once. Similar to how turning in singular tokens or currencies for rewards can be a hassle, having to dismantle items one-by-one is just as time-consuming. Most often this isn’t a problem, but after doing strikes or exploring locations it's possible to come back to the Tower in Destiny 2 and have a box full of blue gear.

While gear rarity itself could use some adjustments in Destiny 2, being able to dismantle more than one item at a time seems like an easy fix for the time being. This would make getting resources from duplicates in activities or clearing up space in the vault easier. While it's understandable to not want players to accidentally dismantle an exotic weapon like Trinity Ghoul or a piece of pinnacle gear, it doesn’t mean mass dismantling shouldn’t be an option.

If Destiny 2 is going to introduce more resources and crafting materials in The Witch Queen, players should be able to dismantle unneeded items in bulk. Even if vault space and character inventory were expanded, Destiny 2’s current ecosystem would still drop a lot of loot that has more value from the glimmer and legendary shards they provide.

While a change like this might not seem like a lot, it would help streamline the experience that Destiny 2 provides. There’s been a lot of time for the player experience and world of Destiny 2 to evolve. A great story has kept players engaged for years, but getting some of these QOL changes in the future could help the game feel more polished and player-friendly. There are some great fan ideas for UI overhauls, but smoothing edges that prospective players might not even think about as something that had to be changed is something Destiny 2 should consider from time to time.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
