Destiny 2's PvP activities rarely ever go for an extended period without receiving some kind of criticism from the game's player base. Generally, these criticisms boil down to balancing issues: "some class abilities are overpowered," "there are too many cheaters," "the Telesto's bugged again" — things like that — criticism not too different from what other first-person shooters receive. However, one fan believes that the major flaw in Destiny 2's PvP is something else less discussed.

Going by the username "UselessDeadMemes" over on Reddit, this Destiny 2 fan created a post stating they believed that the worst of the worse experiences generated in Destiny 2's PvP stem not from gunplay but from the maps themselves. From their experience, the designs of Destiny 2 PvP maps are not optimized enough to stop players from being consistently spawn-killed, and judging by their post's comment section, they're not the only one who thinks this.

The majority of individuals lending their opinions to the post seem to more or less agree with its overall sentiment. Some commentors provided detailed descriptions of how they've been spawn-killed, reliving horrors such as being burned alive by Witherhoard's fire before their spawn animation ever completed or spawning into the super of an enemy who just killed them with it not even a few moments ago. Others pointed out the Destiny 2 maps that wronged them, like Distant Shore and Dead Cliffs.

When combined with the other mentioned issues players normally have with Destiny 2's PvP, it's easy to see why so many of them seem to have a problem with it. Admittedly, though, balancing a PvP game type is never easy, especially when developers have to consider the fact that player avatars have supernatural, otherworldly powers. Maybe when Bungie introduces the next new maps with the Witch Queen expansion, it'll also have a solution for the spawn issues they seem to suffer from.

New PvP maps don't make their way into Destiny 2 too often. The most recent additions the game received were Widow's Court, Twilight Gap, and Fragment, all of which arrived years ago with Destiny 2's Shadowkeep expansion back in October 2019, and out of all of those maps, Fragment was the only one not repurposed from Destiny 1. However, Bungie did state that new Crucible maps would arrive with Season 16 and The Witch Queen, so that's something players have to look forward to.

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
