While Bungie has regularly released substantial new content for Destiny 2's PvE experiences, the PvP side of the game has been neglected lately. It's been quite some time since Destiny 2's Crucible has received a new map, but it seems that will change in future. Destiny 2 assistant game director Joe Blackburn recently touched on the game's PvP experience, confirming some of the content that's in development for the live-service shooter.

In a long Twitter thread, Blackburn discussed the Destiny PvP experience, explaining what the team has been working on lately and what's planned for future. Blackburn touched on Destiny 2 Stasis balancing in PvP and tweaks the team has made to shake up the meta. This re-balancing effort will continue with Destiny 2 Season 15, as the developers are changing 3-peaking and revamping the Trials of Osiris.

Blackburn says that the goal is for Destiny 2 to start adding new Crucible maps and game modes every year, but it will take some time to get that flow going. Things will get started with Season 16, which will see the reappearance of vaulted Destiny 2 maps back into PvP rotation. Blackburn didn't reveal which vaulted Destiny 2 Crucible maps will be returning in Season 16, though, so fans will have to standby for more information on that front.

After those vaulted maps come to Destiny 2, fans can expect a brand new PvP map in the game for Season 17, with a remastered Destiny 1 map coming to the game in Season 18. Details on what exactly these maps will entail are unavailable at the time of this writing, but Blackburn did mention that there are a "a bunch of new environments in Destiny 2," so it seems like they are likely candidates for the new PvP map. The Destiny 2: Beyond Light expansion added Europa as a new location for Guardians to explore, so it seems like a strong candiate for a new Crucible map in the game.

The addition of new Destiny 2 maps will go a long way in pleasing fans of the game's Crucible, but others will want to see new game modes as well. The developers are looking into bringing the fan favorite Destiny 1 Rift mode to Destiny 2, which could happen at some point in 2022. Some brand new game modes are also in the works for release in 2022, so it seems Destiny 2 PvP fans have a lot to look forward to next year.

This is the most transparent Bungie has been about Destiny 2's PvP and its lack of content in quite some time. It's a good sign that things will finally be turning around for the Destiny 2 Crucible in the months and years ahead. In the meantime, fans can tune in to the Destiny 2 showcase on August 24 to learn more about what changes Bungie has in store for Trials of Osiris specifically.

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
