The Destiny 2 Curse of Osiris DLC has only been out for less than a day and already players have found the latest must-have weapon in the game. While Bungie’s online shooter is no stranger to OP weapons like the Gjallarhorn and the Vex Mythoclast, the new Prometheus Lens is in a category all its own.

Most Destiny 2 fans should be plenty familiar with the Prometheus Lens given it has been featured in tons of Curse of Osiris promotional materials. It’s the trace rifle that is basically a solar version of the Coldheart.

But while Coldheart is a respectable exotic energy weapon, the Prometheus Lens is a monster, especially in PvP. The weapon is capable of making quick work of any enemy, reducing them to ashes in a matter of seconds. The worst part is the Prometheus Lens doesn’t even require that the player have good aim; he or she can spray the laser any which way and get easy kills.

The Destiny 2 forums and subreddits are filled with posts proclaiming the Prometheus Lens is OP, broken, and any other euphemism for too strong in PvP. Some players even think that Bungie should cancel Trials of the Nine for the weekend since those lucky enough to get the weapon will run rampant in the Crucible mode.

No doubt the Prometheus Lens is inordinately strong and calls to mind the Vex Mythoclast during its heyday. It wasn’t a long period, but there was a time when the Vex was capable of eliminating Crucible opponents in a few hits, well before anyone could defend themselves.

Prometheus Lens has a similar feel to it since it fires fast and can deal out a ton of damage. And to make matters worse, the weapon’s perks increase the Prometheus Lens’ damage the longer it is fired and they make it so kills return ammo to the magazine.

Whether or not Bungie will do anything to nerf Prometheus Lens so quick after Curse of Osiris has released is unclear, but the weapon is most certainly on the studio’s radar after today. Unfortunately, Bungie has another major December update planned for next week, so it may be too late to squeeze in a last minute nerf.

Destiny 2: Curse of Osiris is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
