Players of Destiny 2 know their role as Guardians isn't over yet in Bungie's acclaimed sci-fi franchise. After saving Earth from SIVA in Destiny's final expansion "The Rise of Iron," Guardians in Destiny 2 face new threats to the system and the galaxy. Since the game's release in 2019, Destiny 2 players have fought the Cabal, the Vex, and other opponents. And this time, Guardians have to face a new kind of Fallen in the upcoming "Beyond Light" expansion.

Lore fans will love the depth of Destiny 2's lore, which this upcoming expansion will elaborate on. However, action fans also look forward to new weapons, new equipment, and Darkness abilities that their Guardians can utilize once "Beyond Light" launches. However, before Guardians can tap into this new power, they need to gain mastery over their abilities first. How can players meet their full potential, though?

10 Finish The Current Campaign First

Since you can't carry over character progress from Destiny to Destiny 2, everyone starts from scratch. However, regardless if players come to Destiny 2 as Destiny veterans or newcomers, they should all consider finishing the main campaign first.

Aside from the fact that Destiny 2 features more cinematic storytelling compared to the first game, the campaign slowly builds up current Guardians and updates them on current mechanics and gameplay. Moreover, the campaign offers enough variety in terms of fighting different opponents players might encounter in PVE. And as an added plus, Guardians can get decent starting equipment for their raids.

9 Not Always About Headshots

FPS fans might look at Destiny 2 and think headshots matter most in this action game. However, Destiny 2 offers more complex options when dealing with various mobs and bosses. Enemies take more damage when Guardians hit them in certain spots of their bodies. Damage numbers become yellow when players hit those weak spots.

Moreover, enemies, especially in PVE, have certain shields and certain weaknesses. In endgame raids, these shields matter as hitting them with the wrong weapon type reduces damage in half. These shields come in the form of Arc (electricity), Solar (fire), Void (gravity, dark), and Kinetic (physical).

8 Take Note Of Weapon Slots

Guardians have space for three weapons, with each slot corresponding to particular weapon types. For instance, Primary Weapons (first slot) deal Kinetic damage, and it's recommended players reserve auto or semi-auto weapons in this slot. Meanwhile, Special Weapons (second slot) use green/energy ammo and are often specialty weapons such as Shotguns and Sniper Rifles. Guardians should also use contrasting Primary and Secondary Weapons.

For instance, Primary Weapons for mid-range encounters work well with Sniper Rifles for long-distance or Shotguns for burst damage. Lastly, Heavy Weapons (third slots) use purple or power ammo that either deal with massive AOE (Rocket Launchers) or melee (Swords) to mobs and bosses.

7 Understand Class Defense

Players find themselves able to use various environmental elements to defend themselves in firefights, including cover and retreating. However, Guardian Classes also have allocated defensive strategies closely tied to their skills. Players using certain classes should understand these methods carefully.

For instance, Warlocks have melee attacks that shove enemies back, enabling them to counter with a powerful spell. Meanwhile, Hunters have an innate Dodge skill that enables them to evade attacks and find a better combat position. Lastly,  Titans have Barriers that help them push through crowds while staving off damage.

6 Survive To Win

Thanks to numerous healing and dodge options, Destiny 2 continuously encourages Guardians to use cover, conserve resources, and attack wisely. Moreover, players can use the same principles for their endgame goals. For PVE-intensive players, their builds should focus on improving their survivability. Titans easily do this by soaking damage with shields, while Hunters pick off opponents quickly or from a distance.

Meanwhile, Warlocks spam AOE to gather opponents and finish them off. Likewise, in PVP, players should focus on maintaining sustains, decreasing cooldowns, and controlling the situation. A strong-enough enemy with a great combo will be vulnerable if they run out of ammo against a player with decent defenses.

5 Study The Map Carefully

Most maps in Destiny 2 comprise of rooms and corridors with their respective entrances. In terms of PVP, pros get the upper hand by remembering these area names and taking note of safe zones in these areas and how they can use this to their advantage.

For instance, players about to enter a new stage should prep their weapon and head to a corner or to the side as fast as possible. Most stages have places near the entrance that can be used for cover, which players could use and enemies can take advantage of.

4 Build Fireteams Depending On Objective

Destiny 2 offers cooperative multiplayer matches with teams of different size. When players build Fireteams for these modes, they should adjust their loadout depending on the situation. For instance, while Titans generally serve as tanks that soak damage with shields, the rest of the team can alternate between DPS and Support.

However, much of the harder Raids such as Leviathan and Last Wish have some special mechanics that teams need to understand to complete. Likewise, certain Raids on harder difficulties might need variety in team composition - such as two Titans for defense, or recruiting another Hunter for extra firepower.

3 Revive Teammates ASAP

Players on a Fireteam should pay attention not just to their loadout and composition, but also reviving teammates. As much as possible, teams should be complete and in tip-top shape. If a player finds themselves close to a downed ally, they should secure the position and revive their teammate ASAP while the others occupy the enemy.

While teams should ideally not lose members, making revives the first priority ensures a Fireteam stays intact throughout the mission. When planning for a Raid or other missions, teams should plan their defensive and revive strategies.

2 Play According To Your Radar

Players should pay attention to their radar mode. For instance, a small red at the edge of the map indicates there are enemies likely in an adjacent room. Likewise, a larger red portion on the radar means there's an enemy in the room closest to them.

Lastly, reds around the player mean there's an enemy in the same room, or even in a room below or above the player. Understanding these enemy indicators helps players be more prepared when entering new areas.

1 Pay Attention To The Killfeed

Players look at the killfeed to identify which players kill who, but it can also be used to an entire team's advantage. If a team is playing on a particular map, players should pay attention to which of their teammates gets taken out by an enemy. In turn, they can use this information to anticipate enemy presence in areas near that location.

Moreover, players should exploit information revealed by the killfeed. If they know a strong player is using a particular gun in tandem with a particular combo they see, they should try baiting that player to waste their combo to make room for a counter-attack.
