Following the release of Warlords of New York last month, The Division 2 hasn't always been in the best state. The community is largely agitated over the return of bullet sponge enemies who are able to dish out major damage against players and multiple maintenance periods to address major glitches and bugs. One such bug was deemed so bad by Massive that they've decided to ban and rollback player accounts who used the glitch by two weeks. Naturally, this was not taken well by players.

The damage exploit basically allowed The Division 2 players to stack weapon talents and damage bonuses by interacting with a minigun and going into their menu at the same time. If done right, currently equipped weapons would gain nearly unlimited unique talents and millions of damage per second on top of it resulting in a pretty broken game experience. Massive was clearly not amused and harshly punished with two week rollbacks and bans.

The community has been up in arms over this decision. As some have pointed out, the way Massive Entertainment has handled is largely the polar opposite to what Bungie has done for game breaking bugs in its own looter shooter, Destiny 2. Numerous times, released weapons like Prometheus Lens or Lord of Wolves experienced periods of being hugely overpowered and with Bungie unable to move quick enough to eradicate them, it let the situation play out and even commemorated it by releasing player emblems for those who experienced it first hand.

In fact, Bungie may be fully aware of this current situation as its weekly blog post may have a bit of shade regarding bugs and how the company handles things. When discussing game security and exploits, Bungie adds in a note admitting that punishing players can be a tricky line to walk as it doesn't want to target innocent players with high skill, penalize over game bugs, or game logic exploits that the company considers to be its fault. While it doesn't say anything about Massive or The Division 2, Bungie makes its stance on situations like that very clear.

Regardless, both games continue to face their fare share of bugs and player unrest. Following the latest update, players continue to report that the DPS glitch remains active in The Division 2, though many more players are scared to mention it over fear of being banned by Massive's reporting tools. Destiny 2, on the other hand, continues to face server disconnections, trouble with exotic gear like Felwinter's Helm, and a fanbase that has largely grown bored with Trials of Osiris. How both companies respond to these issues going forward will certainly continue to be a topic of discussion for players.

The Division 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
