Destiny 2 players want Bungie to remove the maximum limit of Glimmer one can accumulate and readjust the cap and material costs of specific activities to match the state of the game. Glimmer has been a core part of the gameplay experience in both Destiny titles and has even been used as a plot point in Destiny 2. Unfortunately, some players feel that certain parts of the game haven't kept up with the times, with the restrictive upper limit on specific valuable resources being a particularly glaring issue.

Players can accumulate Glimmer from just about any activity in Destiny 2 and expend small quantities to acquire bounties, upgrade Weapon masterworks and Armor mod slots, and much more. For a long time in Destiny 2, players had no choice but to hoard the Glimmer as the game lacked an outlet to spend the resource. With the introduction of Weapon Crafting in The Witch Queen, the situation changed as players found themselves depositing massive amounts of Glimmer toward crafting powerful armaments. To complicate matters further, Lightfall changed Weapon Focusing in Destiny 2 and introduced hefty Glimmer costs to the system.

Most of the community has realized that they are losing Glimmer faster than they can earn. Newer players are being hampered by the costs much more harshly than the veterans, as the older players can recoup costs by spending Planetary materials. Destiny 2 Players like ILoveTheLeviathan on Reddit have expressed frustration at the upper limit on farmable Glimmer that caps players at 250,000, noting that the arbitrary limit only hampers the farming process. In their post, ILoveTheLeviathan points out that the rate of Glimmer acquisition is not the problem, instead asking Bungie to either significantly increase the upper limit or remove it to simplify matters.

To put matters into perspective, the last time Bungie increased the Glimmer cap was five years ago during Shadowkeep, raising it from 100,000 to its current 250,000. Since then, several high-end material sinks have been introduced, with Weapon Focusing consuming 50,000 Glimmer per Engram focused. For newer players, this is made worse by the Fragments and Aspects of Destiny 2's Light subclasses also costing exorbitant amounts of Glimmer to unlock and posing a different level of challenge for beginner buildcrafters. The issue, unless resolved quickly, will be further exacerbated once the Exotic Armor Focusing arrives, which players already know to be even more expensive than Weapon Focusing.

The issues surrounding Glimmer might be far more technical than players can guess, and with Destiny 2's recent history of technical problems, it might be a while before Bungie decides on a course of action that won't hamper the game's current state. Players can rest assured that Bungie will listen to community opinions and deliver a proper update when ready.

Destiny 2 is currently available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
