Destiny 2's current meta is often defined by powerful or useful guns that can bring unique value to either PvP or PvE, be it by having a great perk combination that not many other weapons have, a specific frame, an Exotic trait, and more. The game's meta often shifts dramatically afters every major sandbox patch released alongside a new Season or, more uncommonly, mid-Season. Bungie's latest TWAB announced that a mid-Season update is indeed coming to Destiny 2, with the specific purpose of rebalancing some weapon archetypes in PvP and the recent changes to in-air accuracy made with Season of the Haunted.

As far as PvE goes, the TWAB announced an upcoming buff to pellet shotguns, which will deal 25% more damage when the patch goes live. While pellet shotguns are often not a great pick in PvE outside more trivial activities in terms of difficulty, this specific change will very likely make two underused Destiny 2 Exotics very powerful. In fact, an Exotic shotgun called The Fourth Horseman is a strong weapon to bring to boss fights already, but with a 25% damage bonus it can be even better -- especially with Arc 3.0. However, an incredible Exotic to pair with The Fourth Horseman for even more DPS now is going to be the Hunters' Radiant Dance Machines boots, which provide players with extra Dodges for a short duration.

How Destiny 2's New DPS Combo Could Work

Destiny 2 Stormchaser Farm Chest

The Fourth Horseman Exotic shotgun is already extremely powerful against stationary bosses or those chunkier enemies that don't move too much or whose crit-spots are hard to hit, and a 25% damage buff can make it incredibly powerful when paired with other buffs or debuffs. For example, Destiny 2's Void 3.0 update made the Weaken debuff more accessible to all subclasses, and pairing The Fourth Horseman with that, as well as a variety of other buffs like High-Energy Fire, Font of Might, Radiant, and more can make it hit for very high damage.

With Arc 3.0 on the horizon, it's not hard to imagine this weapon as one of the new best DPS contenders because of how high its base damage is going to be, especially if it ends up having synergies with the Arc 3.0 keywords in Season 18. The Exotic leg armor known as Radiant Dance Machines, on the other hand, have a unique perk that allow Hunters to repeatedly use their Dodge ability after the first one is used within 15 meters of an enemy. This activates the corresponding Dodge's effect, meaning that it provides Radiant in an area for Acrobat's Dodge, recharges the Hunter's melee ability with Gambler's Dodge, and reloads the equipped weapon with Marksman's Dodge.

The combo here is that The Fourth Horseman has insane damage and rate of fire, with 5 shots in the magazine with the catalyst, but awful reload speed. Radiant Dance Machines provides four to five Dodges to Hunters performing the action near enemies, meaning that players can virtually unload their whole ammo reserves on a boss in a matter of seconds.

Thus, two Destiny 2 Exotics that ever really see any use outside of basic game modes could become an ultimate DPS combo against many Dungeon and Raid bosses, including Duality's boss fight. While it remains to be seen how long this potential combo remains effective, it's nice to see Destiny 2 give players good reason to look into some of the game's underutilized equipment, introducing some worthwhile variety to the experience.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
