The developers behind Destiny 2 have said that the game’s story and campaign is bigger and more cinematic than Destiny 1’s ever was. This may be good news considering that it appears it will be the only PvE content that players will engage with for a good portion of the game.

According to a new article from Edge Magazine, the Patrols and Strikes that make up a bulk of the other PvE content in Destiny 2 won’t unlock until the final third of the campaign. However, the editors at Edge who played the entirety of Destiny 2’s campaign said the story missions were so engaging that they didn’t miss the other PvE content, nor realize that they hadn’t played them until the notification popped up in game telling them the content had unlocked.

Among that PvE content, which mostly consisted of Patrols and Strikes in Destiny 1, Destiny 2 will now add more activities including Adventures, Lost Sectors, and Flashpoints. Adventures are story-based, fully voiced side missions that players can go on, Lost Sectors are the equivalent of hidden dungeons that players can find out in Patrol, and Flashpoints are weekly high-level activities designed to draw players to Public Events and their harder versions while on a destination selected for each specific week.

Bungie has also said that story has been infused on every level of the game, with most of that likely coming from the PvE content. PvE sounds incredibly substantial in Destiny 2, reportedly including 80 story missions and over fifty hours of content. And that’s not including the game’s raid, which will also release sometime around the launch window of Destiny 2.

Bungie has kept much of Destiny 2 well under wraps. In fact, the studio has only showed glimpses, and if all these reports of the game’s length and how long it will take to unlock a majority of the PvE content, there may just be a whole lot to do in this sequel in Bungie’s sci-fi shooter franchise.

Destiny 2 releases on September 6, 2017 for PS4 and Xbox One, and on October 24, 2017 for PC.
