Update: Surprise! Bungie apparently had no intention on waiting to debut this quest because it's live now for everyone to participate in.

Original story follows:

Since The Revelry event ended, Bungie has been fairly quiet as to what's next for Destiny 2. Earlier today, Bungie released one of its biggest updates in a while which included a few important bug fixes and the long awaited Spectral Blades nerf for Nightstalker Hunters. With only about a month left before the Season of the Drifter gives way to Penumbra and Season of Opulence, fans may have gotten their first look at upcoming new content including another returning exotic item from the first Destiny.

Dataminers have once again posted some fairly interesting details over on the Destiny 2 subreddit. While many of the new files remain classified, a very specific icon was discovered with what appears to be the image of Outbreak Prime. For longtime fans, Outbreak Prime was an exotic pulse rifle from the first Destiny, acquired after activating five hidden monitors during the Wrath of the Machine raid inside the Rise of Iron expansion. The weapon was famed for the SIVA nanites that added damage over time and spread to nearby enemy targets.

This discovery immediately led fans to speculate that Bungie could be bringing the exotic pulse rifle back to Destiny 2. If that is the case, it's likely going to be through an exotic quest line similar to other returning weapons like Thunderlord, Thorn, and the Last Word to name a few. It's also more than likely that this quest will be a part of the annual pass if the seasonal roadmap and trend are any indications.

The datamining efforts also may have stumbled across more Catalysts being added for several Destiny 2 Forsaken exotic weapons. It's been a while since new catalysts have been added and if this information is correct, then the following weapons may finally be getting an additional boost. Keep in mind that the method to acquire these catalysts has been marked as classified, though details on the bonus were included in the files:

  • Cerberus+1: +20 Stability, -30 Reload Speed
  • Malfeasance: +20 Range
  • Trinity Ghoul: -30 Charge Time
  • Lord of Wolves: Magazine increase
  • Wavesplitter: +10 Range, +30 Ammo Capacity
  • One Thousand Voices: +30 Stability, +20 Ammo Capacity
  • The Queensbreaker: +20 Range, +20 Aim Assist
  • Two-Tailed Fox: -30 Reload Speed, +10 Weapon Size
  • Black Talon: Magazine Increase

Until Bungie outright confirms the details, stats, and additions, players should take the above information with a grain of salt. The wait shouldn't be shouldn't been too long, however, as Bungie typically holds livestreams weeks before any official start dates. With Destiny 2's seventh season rapidly approaching, new information should be arriving soon.

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
