In today's Destiny 2 update, Bungie secretly added new exotic catalysts and a new exotic quest for players to take on. After some collaboration on the various Destiny subreddits, players have finally unraveled the exotic quest which leads players to a returning fan-favorite weapon: Outbreak Prime reborn as Outbreak Perfected. This gun is a bit of a challenge to get, and will require players to be near max power level or have a really coordinated fireteam.

Where to Find the Fallen Transponder

To get started on the Outbreak Perfected quest, players will need to head over to Titan and start the Bad Neighbors (Heroic) mission. As players progress through the mission, they will come across a room with a handful of Hive enemies and a Shrieker. In the next room, there is a door to the left that players can open. It seems that players may need to have completed the Enemy of my Enemy quest line to start the Rat King exotic quest beforehand to have access to this room.  Once inside the room, players should walk over to the desk in the back and pick up the Fallen Transponder.

How to Unlock All Six Transponder Nodes

When Destiny 2 players inspect the Fallen Transponder they will be met with six nodes featuring riddles that players must solve to unlock the nodes. Each of the six riddles leads to a Lost Sector which holds a data node players must collect. The first node can be found in the Lost Sector The Drain, located in the Outskirts of the EDZ. Head toward the quarry-like area with the giant Fallen banner. The first transponder will be located on the ground. The second is in the Whispered Falls, also located in the Outskirts of the EDZ. Players should find the well-lit cavern with the waterfall. On the ground level, a small cave can be found on the right side hiding the second transponder.

The next two devices are located in Trostland in the EDZ. The first is in the Atrium Lost Sector. As players advance into the area, they will notice a small room on the left. The device is located behind a wall in this room. The last EDZ device is located in Widow's Walk, on a platform right above the Lost Sector chest. The final two nodes are located on Nessus. The first is in the Carrion Pit in the Glade of Echoes right behind the right wall next to the Lost Sector chest. The last node is located in The Rift right next to the Exodus Black. It is located in a storage container hanging over the rift on the left side of the Lost Sector. Hopefully the new exotic catalysts will feature more puzzles like this to unlock.

To recap, these are the lost sectors to visit:

  • The Drain
  • Whispered Falls
  • Atrium
  • Widow's Walk
  • Carrion's Pit (Nessus)
  • The Rift (Nessus)

Completing Zero Hour Mission

Perhaps the hardest part of this questline is the Zero Hour mission that unlocks after finding all six nodes. Players will rendezvous with Mithrax in the cellar of the old barn at The Farm. Once players interact with him, they will be teleported into a Power Level 690 mission that has a 20-minute timer. Players will definitely want to be geared up with powerful weapons, like the Thorn exotic hand cannon, before taking on this beast of a mission. They will also likely want to squad up with friends to make the fight easier.

Once the mission is complete, players will be rewarded with Outbreak Perfected, which is nearly identical to Outbreak Prime from the Rise of Iron expansion in Destiny. It does feature one new perk which increases damage to enemies afflicted by the SIVA nanites, which could perhaps lead to some insane Destiny 2 boss kills if paired with other clever tactics.

Teaming up with Mithrax has some major implications, and may be more a common theme in the future if certain Destiny 3 story leaks are to be believed. Regardless, hopefully fans will enjoy this blast from the past as they gear up for the next season of Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 is available for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
