This week, Destiny 2 unlocked its second secret exotic weapon quest, which led players through the old Tower and to the Outbreak Perfected pulse rifle. Those that played Destiny 1 will recognize the weapon as a D2 version of Outbreak Prime, the exotic included with Rise of Iron’s Wrath of the Machine raid.

For the most part, Outbreak Perfected functions similar to Outbreak Prime, sending out SIVA nanites that do extra damage to the target, but the D2 version also increases damage the longer players fire at a SIVA “infected” target. In other words, Outbreak Perfected seems like a good candidate for sustained boss DPS and so the Destiny 2 community did a little testing.

In the video below, Destiny 2 players can see how Outbreak Perfected performs against Insurrection Prime, the mech boss for the Scourge of the Past raid. But for those who don’t want to watch, let’s just say that Outbreak Perfected has instantly become a top tier boss DPS weapon.

The key to doing so much damage is Outbreak Perfected’s Parasitism perk, which increases its damage based on the number of SIVA nanites that are attached to an enemy. Essentially, the more people using Outbreak Perfected on a target and the more times the gun hits the target will continuously boost damage until it reaches a threshold. That’s why, if you watch Insurrection Prime’s health, the damage starts to build at an exponential rate.

Of course, the Destiny 2 raid team is also using the Well of Radiance super to further boost damage and Lunafaction Boots to eliminate reloads, but this is still very impressive. The pulse rifle is just as effective against Emperor Calus in the Leviathan raid as well.

Getting Outbreak Perfected, however, is no easy task, and requires completing the Zero Hour secret mission rated at 690 power level. Much like the Whisper of the Worm’s secret mission, though, this is going to be a weapon that many players will want.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
