Destiny 2’s Season of the Lost hit the ground running. While the Witch Queen reveal generated a ton of hype for the near future, the current season is what has kept players enticed in Destiny 2's narrative. There are conflicting viewpoints, complex characters, and new game modes to explore. Among these is the core storyline in Season of the Lost, which focuses on Savathun, Mara Sov, and the Warlock Osiris.

While Osiris has become somewhat of a fan favorite character for fans, his questionable actions leading up to the finale of Season of the Splicer made his presence in Destiny 2 a point of concern. Many fans didn’t know whether or not they could trust him, and it all seems to come back to the off-screen death of his Ghost and struggle with the Hive. While it has since been revealed that Osiris after that time was Savathun in disguise, players shouldn’t take the Hive Witch Queen’s words to heart.

Destiny 2: Two Queens, a Phoenix, and a Saint

destiny 2 season of the lost roadmap missing

While Savathun may continue to hold onto Osiris, recognizing his potential as a bargaining chip, there is no reason for her to keep the Guardian alive. The Witch Queen Savathun has become infamous for her deception. Her skills in manipulation and lying have left her unmatched in the Destiny universe, pulling the wool over the eyes of every major character that players know.

With this in mind, it is not beyond the realm of possibility that Osiris is already dead. While the Awoken Queen, Mara Sov, has given her word to bring back Osiris safely, she may be blinded by her arrogance. Mara Sov may view herself as a match for the Witch Queen, having rallied against Oryx the Taken King in the past, but it seems unwise to put that much confidence against the plans of Savathun. The Witch Queen has been a formidable opponent to all, even without her Hive Guardians.

Feeding into the likelihood that Osiris is already dead, and this is the road Savathun is paving, are dialogue lines from the seasonal quest for the current week. Saint 14, Osiris’ lover and friend, has made it adamantly clear that he does not plan to let go of his Phoenix too easily. While Savathun likely has a hand in the rising tension, the conversation also feels like a primer for the inevitable.

Saint himself spent quite a long time dead. Osiris looked for him and was able to bring him back, but the likelihood of Saint being able to achieve the same with Osiris' death is low. Osiris has long been seen as a visionary, albeit a controversial one, and while Saint loves him, the Titan isn’t necessarily capable of the same impossible feats. With so much already on the line for Destiny 2 as The Witch Queen expansion draws nearer, fans preparing for what is likely to be revealed could be the best thing that both fans and Saint 14 can do.

Osiris Is Alive After Season of the Lost

There is also the possibility that Savathun has not lied and Osiris is still alive, but this reality of that fact could be even more harrowing. If Osiris continues to live, it means his existence is likely one that players are familiar with. Eris Morn was changed in nightmarish ways due to her time among the Hive. While survival is possible, imprisonment by one of the Hive Gods might be worse than death.

A Darkness or Worm God corrupting Osiris could be unbelievably difficult for players to handle. Uldren Sov pulled the trigger on Cayde-6, but if Savathun has tortured Osiris beyond recognition (or taken other Guardians as well), then players may find themselves against both the Hive and old allies in the Witch Queen expansion. These possibilities might seem unbelievable, but Savathun is no stranger to the long game.

If Savathun’s best hand involves meticulously picking off the characters players love one by one, then it is a process she has likely already begun. The question then becomes: How long will fans have to wait? There’s no real chance she can be stopped right now, as Guardians would then have to track the Witch Queen to Savathun's throne world. The upcoming Anniversary event in Destiny 2 may be a reprieve, but will only stall what is to come in the Witch Queen expansion.

Osiris' future as it looks now is grim. Players will likely have to tackle a lot throughout the season, and it wouldn’t be the first time to include major events outside of expansion content. Commander Zavala was nearly assassinated in Season of the Chosen, and the truce with the Eliksni went into full effect during Season of the Splicer, making a major event like Osiris' death a possibility following the core story in Season of the Lost.

Destiny 2 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
