For most devoted Destiny 2 players, perks are an important part of the grind. They can make or break how a weapon feels, at least for the most part. Typically, the two changing perks of a weapon are what players will be most concerned with, rather than the barrel and magazine, as the latter won't make a massive difference for the grand majority of players.

Another feature has been added to this grind: Origin Traits. These are extra perks found at the end of the perk list when viewing a weapon in detailed mode. Depending on the weapon's foundry or the activity they can be acquired from, this Origin Trait will be different. Players should think of it as an inherent weapon quality to certain weapons from certain activities, foundries, and areas in the game. Here's how each Destiny 2's Origin Trait ranks against one another, from worst to best.

21 Skulking Wolf

Destiny 2 Forges Pledge
  • Found on weapons earned from Iron Banner.

If there's one Origin Trait that just feels downright disappointing, it's Skulking Wolf. To activate the effects of this perk, players already need to be low health and earning Guardian final blows, which will boost their radar and make them invisible on the enemy's radar.

There's simply too much here that needs to be taken into account. Plus, in a game mode like Iron Banner with six people often stacked up together for Rift or Eruption, once a player scores a kill on another player at low health, chances are the enemy's friend already knows their location regardless of radar pings.

20 Gun And Run

Destiny 2 Bottom Dollar Hand Cannon
  • Found on weapons earned from Gambit.

Although no one can deny extra sprinting speed is nice, the Gun and Run Origin Trait is a bit too mild to be as interesting and useful as some of the other choices on this list. After scoring a kill, players will enjoy a speed boost while sprinting.

Now that Arc 3.0 is out, Gun and Run feels even more niche in its utility, which is why it currently ranks fairly low on this list.

19 One Quiet Moment

Destiny 2 Survivors Epitaph Hand Cannon
  • Found on all Crucible weapons.

Being out of combat in Destiny 2 is sort of a rare moment, which is why this perk is annoying. One Quiet Moment boosts the player's reload speed while they're outside of combat, but how many times does this actually happen in most activities? In PVE activities, players will be in combat for quite a while usually, so a faster reload speed during combat would be much more preferable.

It simply feels like a reload mod would be much better than relying on this perk. While it could work in some niche situations, it's definitely not the Origin Trait of dreams.

18 Alacrity

Destiny 2 Aishas Embrace Scout Rifle
  • Found on weapons earned from completing Trials of Osiris matches.

Alacrity is a much-debated perk. Its utility depends entirely on the activity the player is trying to complete and how many members their fireteam has. Any solo player will greatly benefit from the boost that Alacrity provides to the last living member of the fireteam: better range, aim assist, reload speed, and stability.

However, because so many activities in the game are matchmade, Alacrity suffers from being just a tiny bit niche. For any solo challenge players and completionists, it can be the greatest possible advantage, but this group of players isn't entirely representative of the majority of Destiny 2's player base. In other words, Alacrity's efficiency is highly dependent on what kind of content the player engages in the most.

17 Vanguard's Vindication

Destiny 2 Empty Vessel Grenade Launcher
  • Found on weapons earned from Vanguard playlist activities.

Out of all the playlist activity Origin Traits, Vanguard's Vindication seems like the most versatile despite not being quite as strong as Alacrity. It doesn't require any specific conditions, such as a downed fireteam or solo play, to activate, and most players will benefit from it, especially in PVE.

Final blows with a weapon carrying this trait will grant the player a bit of health. This health gain is instant and is around 7 health points according to DIM. It's not going to be a massive lifesaver of an Origin Trait, but it's a cool healing bonus.

16 Dream Work

Destiny 2 Something New Hand Cannon
  • Found on weapons earned during Solstice activities.

Last Solstice, players made a funny discovery with this Origin Trait, which was soon patched up by Bungie. Dream Work had some great potential, as it allowed players to get a nice buff from scoring assists on kills. When reloading a weapon, assists would potentially overflow the magazine.

Unfortunately, the Solstice weapons weren't that fantastic which hampered this Origin Trait, save maybe from Compass Rose. Depending on the other perks players have, this Origin Trait might be a nice bonus to keep around.

15 Classy Contender

Destiny 2 The Title SMG
  • Found on weapons earned from the Guardian Games event.

On paper, Classy Contender looks great. In fact, it even feels pretty great. However, due to its limited availability, it's in an awkward position in the game. Once Bungie releases more weapons with this Origin Trait, it could absolutely become a powerhouse of a trait.

Classy Contender allows players to quickly charge their class ability. Every kill will provide a 5% charge, which is pretty nice for any PVE builds that are reliant on quick ability charge rates. The Title SMG is the only weapon with this Origin Trait as of now, and given that it's a Void SMG, it could work in some Void builds that focus on ability charging.

14 Hot Swap

Destiny 2 The Other Half Sword
  • Found on Dares of Eternity weapons starting season 18.

Hot Swap is the new Dares of Eternity Origin Trait now that Dares weapons have become craftable. It's honestly not bad, either, providing a powerful handling boost if a player switches to the weapon in question while they're injured.

Given the amazing selection of weapons in Dares, such as the BXR-55 pulse rifle, Wastelander shotgun, and Half-Truths and The Other Half swords, this trait can be fantastic in Crucible where Dares weapons have consistently been great picks.

13 Omolon Fluid Dynamics

Destiny 2 Snorri FR5 Fusion Rifle
  • Found on new Omolon weapons.

Omolon weapons that drop from engrams have been absolutely fantastic since the start of The Witch Queen era. There have been a lot of great Legendary weapon choices, such as the Ogma PR6, Snorri FR5, Out of Bounds, and even the latest Ammit AR2 which can be crafted.

Thanks to their Origin Trait, and Omolon Fluid Dynamics, these weapons also feel pretty good despite only being Legendary. The top half of the magazine basically reloads faster and has much greater stability, which means the first shots on a weapon with this Origin Trait will feel easier to hit and suffer from less flinch. Plus, it rewards the habit of reloading directly after a kill, even when the magazine still has shots left, which is a common habit of FPS players.

12 Suros Synergy

Destiny 2 Syncopation Pulse Rifle
  • Found on new Suros weapons.

Another foundry perk added since the beginning of The Witch Queen era, Suros Synergy also feels fantastic and many of the Suros weapons added into Destiny 2 have great perk pools, making them quite versatile and desirable. Reloading a Suros weapon with this trait will boost the weapon's handling and reduce flinch.

Some great weapons in this category are the Fugue-55 sniper rifle, the craftable Syncopation-53 Stasis pulse rifle, and the Cantata-57 hand cannon, the latter having become one of the favorites of the PVP community.

11 Hakke Breach Armaments

Destiny 2 Palmyra Rocket Launcher
  • Found on new Hakke weapons.

Hardcore PVE enjoyers will likely vouch for the Hakke Breach Armaments Origin Trait out of all the foundry perks, due to the innate damage boost it gains against certain high-value targets in PVE. Vehicles, turrets, and shields are notoriously annoying to deal with in Nightfalls, which is why weapons with this perk can be massively useful.

RELATED: Destiny 2: Best Arc 3.0 Hunter Build

Hakke weapons have also been mostly good since their release, with Palmyra-B being the star of the meta back in season 16 (and is still a great rocket launcher). Perseus-D is a fantastic scout rifle in the kinetic slot that is great for any Grandmaster Nightfalls, particularly ones with Cabal. For endgame activities, it's worth keeping some of the Hakke weapons around.

10 Stunning Recovery

Destiny 2 Duty Bound Adept Auto Rifle
  • Found on Nightfall weapons.

Another pretty neat Origin Trait in Destiny 2 is the Stunning Recovery perk. This one is available on Nightfall weapons, so depending on the weapon itself it may not always be that great of a pick. That said, it can work well if it happens to drop on a primary weapon that can be used to stun champions, such as the Duty Bound auto rifle or Horror's Least pulse rifle.

Stunning Recovery provides players with significant bonuses when they use the weapon in question to stun a champion. They will instantly start to regenerate health and gain a Recovery stat buff. Moreover, their weapon's magazine will be partially refilled.

9 Bitterspite

Destiny 2 New Purpose
  • Found on weapons earned from the Duality dungeon.

Bitterspite is a perk that's almost exclusively useful in PVE, as it relies on the player taking damage for the perk to trigger. Since players die quickly in PVP (usually), Bitterspite won't perform as strongly in Crucible activities.

When players take damage, Bitterspite will trigger, which will speed up their next reload. Given some of the nice weapons with this perk, all available from the Duality dungeon, it's not a bad perk at all. Look for primaries especially, such as the New Purpose Stasis pulse rifle and the Unforgiven Void SMG, though any weapon from the dungeon with this trait will greatly benefit from a reload boost.

8 Extrovert

destiny-2-nezarecs-whisper-lore
  • Found on Haunted weapons from season 17.

Since all of season 17's Haunted weapons are craftable, this perk automatically earns a spot somewhat higher than the rest. Extrovert gives players a health boost when defeating targets while surrounded by enemies or Nightmares.

While the Nightmare part is a bit useless in most PVE activities, the surrounded part is not and plays quite well into any close-range melee builds such as pretty much anything with Arc 3.0. It's particularly good on the Nezarec's Whisper glaive, which also happens to be Arc.

7 Psychohack

Destiny 2 Enigma Glaive
  • Found on Throne World weapons.

Psychohack is one Origin Trait that players shouldn't sleep on. It can be a massive advantage in the endgame in particular, where larger minibosses deal a ton of damage and are spammy. Psychohack counters that by lowering the target's damage after a while.

The weapon choices for Psychohack are limited, which is its only downside. The Enigma glaive is a decent choice, as is the Forensic Nightmare kinetic SMG. Most other Throne World weapons are not worth the player's time.

6 Runneth Over

Destiny 2 Doom Of Chelchis Scout Rifle
  • Found on King's Fall raid weapons.

Those who have had the time to jump into the King's Fall raid will need to know about the raid's Origin Trait, Runneth Over. Reloading any of the raid's weapons nearby allies has the chance to overflow the magazine.

Given the abundance of fantastic weapons, particularly for PVE, available in this raid, this Origin Trait ranks quite high. The Defiance of Yasmin sniper rifle, Doom of Chelchis Void scout rifle, Smite of Merain pulse rifle, Midha's Reckoning Arc fusion rifle, and Zaouli's Bane hand cannon are all excellent picks from this raid that will equally benefit from Runneth Over. Though, a slight preference goes for any weapon using Special ammo.

5 To Excess

Destiny 2 Calus Mini-Tool Crafted
  • Found on Opulent weapons.

Opulent weapons returned in season 17 and came with a new Origin Trait called To Excess. While the player has their Super fully charged, kills with these weapons will trigger To Excess, which will boost the player's Discipline and Strength stats.

RELATED: Destiny 2: Best Season Of The Plunder Weapons, Ranked

This is pretty good in both practice and on paper. The only downside is that players will need to have their Super charged, so it can be somewhat dependent on the build and activity in question. What makes this perk better, however, is that it comes attached to some pretty great weapons, including the Calus Mini-Tool Solar SMG, the Drang Solar sidearm, the Austringer hand cannon, and the Beloved Solar sniper rifle.

4 Right Hook

Destiny 2 Tarnished Mettle
  • Found on Season of the Plunder (season 18) weapons.

Season 18 brought in some nice Fallen-themed weapons, and an overall pirate-themed season. It's only fair the Origin Trait would be inspired by that too and would work well with Arc 3.0's playstyle.

Right Hook is triggered when players deal melee damage. That's right: just melee damage. No kills are needed for this. When melee damage is dealt, the weapon gains better range and target acquisition. The timer gets refreshed whenever players deal melee damage again, which is brilliant for builds that have a long-ranged charged melee which can also be refreshed quickly. Plus, there are some fantastic weapons out this season, all craftable as well, so Right Hook has earned its rightful place high on the list.

3 Souldrinker

Destiny 2 Insidious
  • Found on Vow of the Disciple raid weapons.

The top three all roughly stand on equal footing, with Souldrinker being ever-powerful. This trait is found in all the Vow of the Disciple weapons, all of which are incredibly powerful. When players reload one of these weapons, they will instantly gain health based on the number of hits they've scored prior to reloading. The amount of health given is dependent on the weapon type, according to DIM.

Given that these weapons are all craftable and that none of the raid weapons are bad or niche by any means, this perk is incredibly powerful. Plus, instead of counting kills, Souldrinker counts hits, which makes it even more versatile.

2 Veist Stinger

Destiny 2 Funnelweb SMG
  • Found on Veist weapons.

Out of the four foundry perks introduced in Destiny 2's The Witch Queen era, Veist Stinger is undoubtedly the best. In fact, it's so good that despite being highly accessible in engrams and world drops, it can easily contend with the likes of Souldrinker, which is a raid weapon perk. Veist Stinger is activated when players damage an enemy, which then has a chance of reloading the magazine automatically. Players will also be able to move faster while aiming.

The popularity of the Funnelweb Void SMG perfectly illustrates why Veist Stinger is so good, especially with the right regular perks like Frenzy or even Subsistence. It completely removes the necessity of reloading. The real kicker, however, is Veist Stinger on bows and swords, with bows getting a much faster draw speed (see the Stasis bow Lunulata-4B or Whistler's Whim kinetic bow, for example) and swords earning a charge rate boost.
