With the release of the Destiny 2: Forsaken last fall, the expansion brought with it a new collection of exotics. One of the most powerful additions was the Titan helmet, One-Eyed Mask.

Being especially powerful in the Crucible, the exotic has become the top choice for Titans in PvP, and opponents do not have many options to counter its unique perk. But Bungie is looking to lessen the viability of One-Eyed Mask with the release of an upcoming game update that will launch alongside the Season of the Drifter on March 5th.

The One-Eyed Mask's unique perk is called Vengeance, which marks any enemy that causes damage against the player. If the player wearing One-Eyed Mask can track down that enemy and defeat them, it grants the player with increased damage, instant full health, and an overshield that starts to charge up to full.

With the changes coming on March 5 in Update 2.2.0, the Mark of Vengeance (which is the tracking marker that appears above enemies) has been reduced in duration from the current 15 seconds down to 8 seconds. The way health is granted after a kill is changing as well; instead of health being instantly put at 100% with an overshield that charges over time, now health will charge along with the overshield. This change has the potential to let other players counter the health and shield charge by dealing damage. Lastly, Vengeance will not trigger when Titans are in their supers, with Bungie saying that letting the buff trigger on kills makes supers "far too potent."

While it is not a massive nerf by looking at these notes, Bungie is hoping to strike a balance where the exotic is not rendered useless but the changes do enough to make it so One-Eyed Mask is no longer the only exotic worth choosing in PvP and to give opposing Destiny 2 players a fighting chance when going up against a Titan with the powerful exotic.

Bungie also previewed more changes coming in Update 2.2.0 including a nerf to full-auto shotguns and making Gambit matches faster.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
