Destiny 2 players are finally experiencing the long promised invasion of the forces of Darkness. While playing an older piece of content, one player noticed some interesting imagery that could reveal something about the Darkness and the Nine.

In Season of Arrivals specifically, the Darkness' storyline involves the Nine as well. This was mostly done through Destiny 2's newest dungeon, Prophecy, which revolves around the utilization of darkness and light.

While doing Reckoning, an older piece of Nine-themed content, user DekktheODST on Reddit noticed that the central piece in the activity's lobby area resembled the "pyramid" ships invading the Solar System at the moment. It even has the slit separating the bottom rear corner of the ship from the rest of its body.

The most striking difference between these two shapes is the color. DekktheODST speculates that this inversion of color could signify how the Light and Dark are interchangeable under the right circumstances. This is also the notion that the Prophecy dungeon emphasizes.

Another theory they put forth is that this could simply be a monolith of sorts dedicated to the Darkness. The Nine have shown interest in what the Light can do, and if the two forces can be transposed, they must be interested in the Dark as well.

The Nine are an homage to one of Bungie's earliest games called Myth: The Fallen Lords. In its campaign, a group of mages also called the Nine lead the army of The Light against the army of The Dark. With that in mind, this imagery can be interpreted as the Nine of Destiny leading Guardians (the Light) against the pyramids (the Dark). But that may be a stretch.

A few commenters on the thread also pointed out that right before the bridge encounter, in higher tiers of Reckoning, it is possible to see pyramid shaped reflections in the puddles on the ground. This even hearkens back to the vision the Traveler sent to Lightbearers in vanilla Destiny 2's campaign, in which pyramid ships were seen above the surface of water.

Ultimately, as the author themselves points out, all of this this could just be another instance of "seeing a face in the outlet." After all, the Light and Dark's imagery is pretty minimalist and it could just be a coincidence that these simple geometric shapes and compositions resembles something the players have seen before.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One, with PS5 and Xbox Series X versions also in development.
