Rumor Patrol: Destiny 2 September Expansion To Feature The Nine, New Enemies

destiny 2 nine trials of the nine

During E3 season, rumors and leaks pop up for every popular game under the sun, and Destiny 2 is no exception. The latest leak to hit the web revolves around Destiny 2’s upcoming September expansion, but as with all leaks it should be taken with a grain of salt. The leak popped up on 4chan, which has a checkered past with validity.

According to the leak, the September expansion will be called “Summoning of Nine” and revolve around the Awoken and the Nine. The image released by Bungie promoting their upcoming livestream shows off what appears to be The Reef, home of the Awoken, so their involvement in the expansion is likely. Prince Uldren of the Awoken will supposedly play a large part in the expansion, as he is raising an army of Fallen to rescue his sister, Queen of the Awoken, from the Nine. The Queen is supposedly dead, but being as she was a fan-favorite character, it wouldn’t be a surprise if she made a return.

Prince Uldren will face off against Nezarec and his army of Void demons. There is mention of the Nastareth, which have been mentioned before in Destiny, albeit briefly and only in a Grimoire card introduced with the return of Prison of Elders in Destiny. Nezarec has been mentioned before in Destiny, and we have a helmet relating to them in Destiny 2. The warlock helmet ties into the Void, which aligns with the rumor since the expansion will supposedly introduce two new areas: The Reef and The Void. The Reef will likely be a new social hub, but The Void may be the new patrol area coming with the expansion.

Supposedly, the expansion will contain ten main story missions and four strikes, almost on par with The Taken King, which had eight story missions and three strikes. The DLC will also feature a new game mode to the FPS genre, which the leak calls Court. There are apparently no new details about the game mode at this time.

The expansion will also feature a new raid, dubbed “Tomb of Eternity” where guardians must face off against Nezarec to stop him for good, according to the leak. Lastly, the leak notes that the expansion will “fix everything” that is wrong with Destiny 2 to this point. It's this final element that suggests this could be more wishful thinking from a fan/an elaborate fan creation rather than truth.

These types of leaks typically appear whenever a Destiny 2 expansion is on the horizon, and while some may seem legit, it’s best to wait and see what Bungie has in store on June 5 with the official reveal livestream and the Sony E3 panel.

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
