One of the features coming to Destiny 2 in its next major patch next week is a batch of new, unique rewards for weekly Nightfall strikes. In developer Bungie’s latest weekly blog, it was revealed how players will be able to earn this rare and unique loot.

The short answer is that these rewards will be random drops for completing a Nightfal Strike in Destiny 2. But of course, there’s a little more nuance to that. “Nightfall Unique Rewards,” as they are being labeled by Bungie, will have a chance to drop on both the Normal and Prestige difficulty of the Nightfall.

Players can increase their chances of getting one of these items to drop by using the Nightfall Challenge Cards that were added in last month’s game update. However, similar to the different tiers of emblem variations attached to the Nightfall, don’t expect the drop rate to be guaranteed or even generous. Bungie is very focused on making these rewards rare, in addition to being unique to Nightfalls.

As mentioned in the past by game director Chris Barrett, the goal for these rewards is for them to be uniquely themed around the strike boss, as well as being powerful and worthy of the effort. This is straight out of Destiny 1’s playbook, with one of the most notable examples being the Grasp of Malok. The Grasp pulse rifle was one of the best archetypes in the game, but it only dropped from a specific strike boss, Omnigul. The chase for the perfect roll led many players to grind that strike for hours in search of it (two blues!).

By fan request, Bungie did not share any previews of the unique Nightfall gear in its blog. If this new gear is truly top-tier, players will start discovering it for themselves online after the update lands.

Update 1.1.4, which contains the unique Nightfall rewards and more, arrives Tuesday, March 27th.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
