Bungie is readying its reveal for the "Next Chapter" of Destiny 2. Today the once again independent game developer announced a livestream on Thursday, June 6 at 10:00 am PT wherein Destiny 2's future will be unveiled. The short message from Bungie doesn't provide much for players to dissect, unfortunately. "Tune in for the reveal of the next chapter of Destiny 2," it reads. Perhaps referring to the reveal as Destiny 2's next chapter rather than the Destiny franchise's does offer a clue.

Just three days ago Bungie community manager DeeJ teased what Destiny 2 players can look forward to from the reveal. After sharing some information about the Season of Opulence, he'd go on to say, "We'll be looking deeper into the future and sharing with you more about a new era for Bungie and Destiny 2." The new era for Bungie is already clear, as the company's partnership with publisher Activision is at its end. As for Destiny 2, players were curious as to whether Bungie would continue to support the game or move on to a sequel.

To be fair, Bungie could share information across all fronts. Perhaps Bungie is moving into a partnership with another publisher or is even considering selling the company. Perhaps Bungie is planning both to continue supporting Destiny 2 with DLC while also announcing Destiny 3. The sky is the limit for Bungie. Of course, alternatively Bungie could simply share some brief details about a small upcoming DLC and nothing else. That, however, seems unlikely.

Bungie had been planning on making this announcement for some time, so confirmation via livestream won't be too much of a surprise for current players. Previously, Bungie had said that it would reveal its plans following the launch of Season of Opulence and the completion of the Crown of Sorrow raid. Both the Season of Opulence and the Crown of Sorrow raid will go live on June 4, making a June 6 livestream a quite literal delivery of Bungie's promise.

It's an odd feeling not knowing what's next for either Bungie or the Destiny franchise. Years ago leaked court documents revealed a 10-year plan for the Destiny franchise, a cycle of full game and DLC releases that erased a lot of the mystery behind Bungie's plans. Now, five years after the launch of the original Destiny, Bungie has the freedom to move in whatever direction it pleases. It could even move on to a different game or franchise, though clearly its future with Destiny is written in the stars.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
