One of the most unique and interesting elements of Destiny 2 is its storytelling. Each story thread in the game is eventually revealed to be part of a greater mystery, and each mystery is unraveled in time. This week, during its usual This Week At Bungie weekly post, Bungie announced the date for the showcase of The Witch Queen expansion, which is set to highlight some details of Destiny 2's next major chapter on August 24. Very little is known about the expansion, but with the hints dropped by Bungie over time, it's to be potentially set in Old Chicago, a once-great city full of life and technological advancement that is now a swamp.

As part of the announcement, Bungie showed a new Witch Queen image with the This Week At Bungie that reads "Survive the truth," and then includes a changed version of the logo for the expansion. The Witch Queen is Savathun, who seems to have been walking the streets of the Last City for a while now, as Season of the Splicer's lore entries confirm, and it's not impossible that she did so by posing as the legendary Warlock Osiris. This is important because, as a Reddit user by the name of xB1ack showed with their post, the new Destiny 2 logo perfectly overlays with the Veiled Statue of the Shadowkeep and Beyond Light campaigns.

Destiny 2: Savathun, Darkness, and the Veiled Statue

The reason why this is a big deal is that the statue has very old origins, and was first shown in concept art for the Darkness. The statue then made its appearance in the Pyramid in Shadowkeep, again in the Garden of Salvation, and finally on Europa in Beyond Light. The Veiled Statue seems to have deep ties with the Darkness, and yet it depicts a woman who fans have associated with the figure of the Gardener, or that of the Winnower. The logo for The Witch Queen overlaying so perfectly with the Veiled Statue's pose may be an indicator that very dark days are coming to Destiny 2, and the reason for that is Savathun's relationship with Darkness itself and her Worm.

Savathun spent the entirety of Destiny 2's Season of Arrivals trying to undermine the Darkness from making contact with the Guardians, which eventually happened anyway. The Darkness told the Guardians that there was a great power waiting for them on Europa. With Beyond Light, that came true with Stasis, which was bestowed upon the Guardians by the Veiled Statue herself.

Savathun's relationship with the Darkness is complicated, to say the least, and it became apparent over time that the Hive God wants to be freed from her bondage with her Worm and the Darkness itself. This is something that the aforementioned lore entry from the Season of the Splicer makes even more clear, as Savathun explicitly laments the Worm's never-ending hunger. But then again, there's the new Witch Queen logo and how it is linked to the Veiled Statue; with Savathun being the Goddess of Trickery it poses the question as to why this would be the case, leading players to wonder if what happened thus far might have been a ploy.

It's possible that this is not something Savathun made up, but rather the underlying truth behind the events leading up to Season 15 and, subsequently,The Witch Queen expansion. Whatever the link between the new logo and the Veiled Statue, the Endless Night of the Season of the Splicer pales in comparison to the total darkness that seemingly looms in the future of Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
