The central location of Destiny 2's Lightfall expansion, the secret city of Neomuna, has received an official showcase trailer, setting the stage for the Guardians' next adventure. An entirely separate human colony that survived the catastrophic Collapse by hiding in plain sight, Neomuna seemingly aims to present players with an exciting and potentially unprecedented change in level design philosophy.

Specifically, the cyberpunk-themed Neomuna looks to be far more vertical than any of Destiny 2's many previous locales. Whereas the Guardians would usually battle amidst ruins and rubble or, in some cases, untamed alien wilderness, the setting of Lightfall is a veritable metropolis at the height of its power, with immense skyscrapers and neon-laden concrete wherever one looks.

It remains to be seen just how much differently the environments of Neomuna behave in moment-to-moment gameplay once Destiny 2's Lightfall DLC releases. That being said, the new trailer does a stellar job of highlighting the sheer scale and verticality of the cityscape. It's hardly an accident, too, that Destiny 2's new Strand abilities let players fly through the air at neck-breaking speeds, helping players traverse the concrete jungle with magical grapple hooks and the like.

Another notable feature of the new trailer is that it features a short voice-over from one of Destiny 2's Cloudstriders. One of these mysterious nanotech-infused warriors may act as an impromptu mentor for the player as they drop into Neomuna, but the specifics of the Cloudstriders' behavior and allegiance are still kept under wraps at this time. From the looks of it, they won't be outright hostile toward Guardians themselves, making the faction a potentially powerful ally.

While the trailer doesn't necessarily reveal what to expect from Destiny 2's Lightfall DLC to a greater degree than what was already shown, it does set the mood rather well. The cyberpunk backdrop of Neomuna promises a game world unlike anything Bungie had delivered before in a Destiny game, and the Strand abilities' focus on movement promises big and exciting things for how dynamic the older content might feel once the DLC drops.

Players excited to see what Lightfall might offer will need to wait a bit longer still for a more in-depth look at the expansion. In the interim, Destiny 2's Season of the Seraph rages on, with Guardians duking it out with Xivu Arath's forces across the galaxy, which sets the stage for the upcoming events of the DLC itself.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series S/X. The Lightfall expansion is set to launch on all platforms on February 28.
