Earlier this week, we wrote about a new discovery in Destiny 2 called the mysterious box. This exotic quest step was found right at the entrance to the Volundr Forge, the first Forge unlocked after the DLC launched.

When inspecting the mysterious box, players see four sub-steps that require unlocking four locks. These locks are referenced as Fishhook, Butterfly, Hand, and Black Armory, and it is believed they are tied to each of the four Forges.

Initially, players thought that the mysterious box locks were connected to mysterious runes that were found scattered around the Forge and could only be seen through the scope of a Black Armory weapon. However, it turns out things are a little simpler, and acquiring the Fishhook key only requires a few basic steps.

Before players go after the Fishhook key they should be confident in their ability to complete the Forge. If you can’t complete the Forge then there is no point in working towards the Fishhook key. After Bungie lowered the power level of the Forge, we recommend a power level of about 610.

Step 1: Complete Round 1

The first step is to get through round 1 of the Forge, business as usual. Kill blue-colored enemies, grab the Radiant Battery that they drop, and then throw it at the Forge. Also keep in mind that killing the blue enemies extends the timer, so prioritize blue enemy kills over battery throws when possible.

Step 2: Shoot Drones for Maximum Temper

Now that the Destiny 2 team is on to round 2, send one player to the cliff side of the Volundr Forge and one to the cave area. If you are at the cliffs, look outside the area to a small mountain in the distance. There should be a little Black Armory drone flying around. Shoot it and destroy it.

In the caves, the drone is flying up in the air around some stalactites. Look up and take it out as well. The player on the cliff side can also look over and shoot the drone if need be; it will be on the right side of the cave.

If both the drones are destroyed, the fireteam should get a buff called Maximum Temper in their kill feed. From here, complete round 2 and then defeat the final boss in the Volundr Forge.

Step 3: Open the Chest for Fishhook Key

Once the boss falls, the Forge will spit out some glimmer, some engrams, and the successfully forged weapon. But behind it, a Black Armory chest will also appear. Go up to the chest and open it for the Fishhook key.

To open the mysterious box’s Fishhook lock, inspect the key and hold the action button to “use” it. Then when looking back at the Fishhook lock, its checkbox should not be filled in.

It’s unclear what the quest will offer once all four locks are opened, but Destiny 2 players won’t find out until all four forges are available in the game. Right now only the Volundr and Gofannon Forges are active.

Destiny 2: Black Armory is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
