The future of Let's Plays might be in virtual reality. One dedicated Destiny 2 fan recently unveiled his virtual recreation of the game's Moon Cave levels, with different areas marked for item locations and in-game events of note, like boss fights.

Destiny 2 fans are likely all too familiar with the grind to find new weapon parts and various exotics to continue their campaigns. Completionists might even seek out the elusive Jade Rabbits, which can provide players with some experience points if they are given rice cakes. For both completionists and first-time players, this fan creation can serve as both a breathtaking spectacle in virtual reality and a useful guide towards fully completing the game.

In a Reddit post, user Tyler Fortier unveiled his VR walkthrough of the game's Moon Caves. Using Google's Poly software, Fortier painstakingly recreated 19 panoramas of the Cave's various environments, organizing them in linear order. By using the "Virtual Tour," players can look around in a 360 degree environment and select notes on where the user is entering from and exiting to, and the locations of various items and Lost Ghost Traces scattered throughout the cave system. However, as Fortier himself notes, the Tour is missing a section of the Gatehouse level that still needs to be rendered in the panorama software.

As one Reddit commenter noted, this is also not the franchise's first foray into virtual reality. In 2014, Bungie promoted the original Destiny with a Google Street View promotion called Destiny Planet View. By using similar software, Fortier has managed to create an experience with very similar functionality, down to the use of footnotes. While Bungie used these footnotes to show off 3D models and videos with their notes, this walkthrough mainly focuses on text to relay its information. Overall, however, Fortier's work joins the likes of other impressive fan creations, like the cinematic documentary of Destiny 2's flora and fauna.

As 2020 promises to bring a twelfth season, new Exotic quests, and lore, passionate Destiny 2 fans will not run out of new material to document and interpret. While players enjoy the continued updates to the game, they can hopefully also appreciate the creativity behind Destiny 2's impressive community.

Destiny 2 is out now for PC, PS4, Stadia, and Xbox One.
