Players come back as Guardians in Bungie in Activision's Destiny 2 to defend the Earth and the galaxy from various threats. Thankfully, Guardians can tap into the Light to manipulate their environments (Warlocks), defend their comrades (Titan), and strike fast (Hunter) while pursuing this mission.

In Destiny 2, players can tap into various subclasses to diversify their Guardian's skill sets and abilities. Moreover, they can install Weapon Mods to their weaponry to maximize their loadout. Additionally, players actually have ways to utilize their Weapon Mods to maximize their Destiny 2 performance.

10 Reusable, Not Consumables

Thanks to the recent Shadowkeep DLC, Destiny 2 now treats Weapon Mods as reusable instead of consumables. As such, Destiny 2 players finally don't need to have multiple mods of the same type just to try them out on different weapons. Moreover, this factor means unlocking a Weapon Mod just once unlocks this Mod for all weapons that can use them.

Ideally, newbies should focus on mods that improve Handling, Stability, and Reload Speed. These elements can help them train their accuracy, target-switching, and mobility – all of which matter in endgame raids.

9 Take Note Of Mod Slots

While Destiny 2 Weapon Mods serve as one-time unlockables, this doesn't mean players should be careless when choosing Mods. Weapons that allow Mods have different numbers of Mod slots, from one slot to as high as five. And considering these Mods also make room for things such as Shaders, players need to choose their Weapon Mods carefully, especially when pursuing PVE and Seasonal offerings.

Thankfully, enough test runs can tell players whether their Mod combinations help them with their experience with their chosen weapons. Players who feel like their weapon is underperforming should probably switch up their Weapon Mods to maximize their performance.

8 Don't Rely Purely On Damage

Most Weapon Mods slightly increase a weapon's base statistics (e.g., Impact, Range, Stability, etc.) or increase damage based on certain situations. As such, this factor might encourage Guardians to seek Mods that increase damage instead of other stats. However, considering this caveat, Guardians should forego damage-focused Mods. Instead, they should focus on increasing base weapon stats that help them deal damage.

For instance, Impact improves a weapon's hit rate, while Range increases the overall distance a weapon can reach. With the right build and Mods, Guardians can maximize a weapon's damage output without damage-focused mods.

7 Complement Weapon Perks

Weapons of Rare rarity and higher often come with interchangeable Perks that affect their base stats and provide additional effects. As such, builds most likely focus on Perk combinations instead of purely Mods. Ideally, Guardians should pick Weapon Mods that enhance a Perk's abilities in order to maximize their weapon's performance.

For instance, the Scout Rifle Nameless Midnight has an Explosive Payload Perk. This perk creates an AOE explosion when projectiles connect with an enemy. Moreover, it boasts above-average Impact, high recoil, and decent aim assistance. In terms of PVE, Mods such as Major Spec (deals more damage against powerful foes) or Quick Access Sling (for quick swapping) can complement this powerful Perk.

6 Complement Combat Style

Aside from choosing Mods that complement Perks, Guardians should equip Mods that complement their overall playing style. Some Mods in the game might seem "useless" at first glance but might be devastating when in the hands of the right player.

For instance, Icarus Grip (increases accuracy while in the air) might not be useful to Titan tanking builds. After all, tanks most likely need to soak damage on the ground. However, Icarus Grip might help Dawnblade Warlocks and other flight-based builds zig-zag around the battlefield and devastate enemy mobs.

5 Match Shaders With Aesthetic

While Shaders don't add any modifications to a weapon's innate stats, they do change the appearance of weapons. Moreover, they take up a Weapon Mod slot. Most Guardians won't pay any attention to the basic appearance of their weapons. However, a few fashion tips might help a Guardian's weapon stand out.

Ideally, weapons should take on the secondary color of the overall equipment a Guardian is wearing. Following this rule will help weave the entire outfit together into a common theme. Likewise, players can opt to have their weapon be in a completely different color to bring attention to it.

4 Rely On Base Damage For Specs

Weapon Mods feature Specs, which increase overall damage output based on enemy classification. Essentially, Minor Spec works best against red-bars (minors), Major Spec improves damage versus orange-bars (majors,) and Boss Spec enhances damage against yellow-bars (bosses).

However, these Specs "adjust" their performance depending on the type of enemy. For instance, Minor Spec weapons work better against red-bars versus orange-bars, while Major Spec does the opposite.

As such, these Specs should be placed on weapons already good in performing against these enemy types. For instance, Minor Spec works with anti-mob weapons, Major Spec works with single-target specials, while Boss Spec works with anti-boss weapons (e.g., rocket launchers, snipers).

3 Targeting Adjuster Is A Blessing

Aim Assist remains an integral part of any Guardian's offensive arsenal, as this trait essentially helps them lock on to enemies much easier. With Targeting Adjuster, weapons with decent Stability will enjoy better Aim Assist, which can help Guardians attack mobs easier while being mobile in PVE matches.

Moreover, Targeting Adjuster shines in PVP. Players who want to excel in PVP combat should use Targeting Adjuster with weapons that offer decent Handling and Stability. Use this with a decent sniper and entire teams could be wiped without them noticing.

2 Sidearms Become Extra Powerful

With certain Mod combinations, "neglected" weapons such as Sidearms can become extremely powerful. For instance, while the Surprise Attack Mod imposes a -10 Intellect debuff, it does provide the Surprise Attack Perk. Weapons with Surprise Attack can ready or reload a Sidearm while Charged with Light (CWL). If they do this, all stacks of Charged with Light will be converted into major damage buffs, which in itself can make Sidearms pack a ton of punch.

Theoretically, with the Become Charged with Light builds and Mods, Surprise Attack can convert Sidearms into Power Weapons. This works well with Mods such as Shield Break Charge (CWL when breaking shields), Empowered Finish (CWL when finishing enemies), or Taking Charge (CWL when picking up Orbs of Light).

1 Maximize Speed, Mobility

Speed and mobility remain very crucial components for most Guardians, especially for those who want to clear raids much faster. Unfortunately, fighting on-the-go usually sacrifices damage output in the place for speed. However, it doesn't have to be this way. For instance, Mods such as Sprint Grip and Quick Access Sling take advantage of player mobility.

In this case, Sprint Grip improves a weapon's Handling while sprinting. Meanwhile, Quick Access Sling provides faster switching when a weapon has an empty mag. As such, these perks encourage players to be more mobile while at the same time cycle through their weapons more frequently.
