Masterworks weapons are the newest addition to Destiny 2, a new tier of Legendary weapons with increased stats and perks. The goal with Masteworks is to give players more gear to chase in the endgame and a way to further customize their characters. However, while Bungie's plan with Masterworks began with weapons, it won't end there. This week the developer teased that it will eventually add Masterworks armor.

While no date has been set as to when to expect Masterwork armor in Destiny 2, Bungie says the studio is working on how best to implement them. Don't expect it to work exactly the same as Masterwork weapons, though, especially in the area of orb generation. According to Bungie, because of the ability to equip five pieces of Masterwork armor, if they each granted to the same level of orb generation as Masterwork weapons, it would be orbs galore.

But Bungie did say, at a minimum, it's planning to add a much-requested feature to armor:

...but at minimum we want to provide a much requested mechanism to change the Armor stat type.

That Armor stat type refers to Mobility, Resilience, and Recovery. Each armor set in the game has a fixed roll that offers a mix between the three stats, with minimal customization. Some armor can favor Mobility or Recovery, for example, but that will always be true of that armor with no flexibility. So if a player likes an armor set but not the stat rolls on it, there is nothing they can do.

As players have discovered, Recovery is by far the most useful stat to stack up, but unfortunately for many armor sets (especially a majority of Hunter sets), Recovery as an inherit stat is very hard to come by. Presumably, Masterworks armor could make any set a Recovery set.

Fans have begged Bungie to be able to re-roll the stat perk on their armor to fit their desired build, and it appears that the developer will offer such an ability in the future. Again, there's no telling when these changes will make their way into the game, but it may not be very soon. Bungie issued two major updates this month, and has said that another update will arrive in January focsed on additional endgame investment.

No telling if Masterwork armor will be included in January's update, but Bungie has promised much more frequent updates and changes to the game to answer fans' negative feedback and complaints that have been leveled at Destiny 2 since launch.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
