Bungie detailed a list of changes coming to the rewards system in Destiny 2 in a developer update today. Much like the previous developer update, this one was broken down into when certain aspects will make it to Destiny 2.

On January 30, Masterwork Armor will be available to players. Much like their weapon counterparts, Masterwork Armor will include both fixed and re-rollable bonuses. The set bonus reduces incoming damage during the player’s super. While this bonus is rather insignificant to the PvE crowd, the highlight is that players will be able to re-roll the stat type of the armor to get more recovery, resilience, or mobility.

Raid rewards are also getting adjusted to make them more unique. Raid items will feature mods with Raid-specific perks, a feature that many members of the community miss from Destiny 1. Rewards will also be guaranteed for each major encounter. The raid vendor will also directly sell items from the Leviathan and Eater of Worlds in exchange for Raid tokens and Legendary Shards. A new Ghost with Raid-specific perks will be added to the loot pool for the Leviathan and Eater of Worlds final encounters.

Among the updates listed for February, set to launch with the Crimson Days event on February 13, is the introduction of Strike Scoring in Nightfall Strikes, which will replace the time limit mechanic currently in Nightfalls. While few details were given on the matter, doing well with strike scoring will unlock new emblems and other rewards.

During the Crimson Days event, completing Nightfall milestones will reward players with an exclusive emote, Raid milestones will include a weapon skin, and Crimson Days milestones will reward an exotic sparrow. During this time, players will earn one Crimson Engram and one Illuminated Engram each time they level up. The Crimson Engrams will be weighted “very strongly” to give new rewards instead of duplicates.

The mod system will also see a rework in February, though no specific details were mentioned aside from the reduction of redundant mods and the addition of unique themes for them.

Other endgame rewards were hit on briefly after the Spring 2018 section, and Bungie noted that there will be more reward-driven pursuits instead of players grinding for bright engrams. No specific details were given.

Bungie also stated that the focus would shift away from the Eververse, Destiny 2’s microtransaction marketplace, to add more rewards for activities rather than funneling rewards through loot boxes.

These changes feel like a step in the right direction, though admittedly many of these changes are currently present in Destiny 1, a complaint that is growing louder and louder from the Destiny 2 fanbase. Some changes, like a shader system rework and better clan rewards, are listed as “Fall 2018 (or sooner),” so players may be waiting a long time to see some changes that they are desperately waiting for.

Destiny 2 is available for PC, PlayStation 4, and Xbox One.
