For all the success guardians have in their fight against the darkness, Destiny 2 has seen players lose just as much over the course of the series' seven year run. The prelude to Beyond Light's release saw the Black Fleet consume several planets in the solar system before the Traveler awoke, taking away several worlds and characters players were all too familiar with. Bungie is teasing more loss to come following the reappearance of a legendary sidearm in Season of the Lost as the studio builds to the release of Destiny 2's next expansion, The Witch Queen.

The Witch Queen will see guardians do battle with the Hive god of cunning and lies, Savathun, who has somehow stolen the light and bestowed it to her brood inside her throne world. Hive Guardians will be imbued with similar abilities players have wielded since Destiny was released in 2014, along with Hive ghosts that must be destroyed to ensure they are defeated. Players will face these new challenges with new weapons, including the new melee-focused glaive weapon which will need to be crafted.

However, it's the return of the Legendary sidearm Spoiler Alert that seems to now have players concerned, and as mentioned, Bungie said these concerns are well-founded. Bungie Senior Narrative Lead Julia Nardin told GamesRadar the weapon being reissued was "not a coincidence" but did not speak further, somewhat playing into some players' fears.

Teaser of the Witch Queen expansion

Spoiler Alert first appeared as part of a suite of weapons from 2018's Warmind expansion and came with the flavor text "Someone is going to die." This preceded the release of 2018's major Destiny 2 expansion Forsaken, which saw the final death of a beloved character and Hunter Vanguard Cayde-6 at the hands of Uldren Sov. Uldren met his own end at the end of the main campaign but was resurrected as The Crow by his ghost, Glint, during the Season of the Forge, leading to his redemption over the last year.

The question now becomes what major character could players be saying goodbye to in The Witch Queen or possibly further down the road. Osiris is an easy guess after the reveal Savathun was posing as the legendary guardian since the Season of the Hunt, which could play a part in kicking off the events of The Witch Queen. There's also the possibility players could be saying goodbye to the Awoken Queen Mara Sov or her wrath Petra Venj as a result of the events of Season of the Lost.

Destiny 2 is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
