When Bungie released the Destiny 2 Season of Opulence roadmap, the studio revealed that a new exotic weapon would be coming to the game in July: the Lumina hand cannon. Upon closer inspection, many fans believed that this would be the fabled Rose hand cannon from Destiny lore. Now players can track down this new exotic hand cannon, but getting it will be a bit of a grind (but it's an exotic quest, so there's no surprise there).

Step 1: Tracking Down The Original Thorn

Players will need to start by tracking down the original Thorn hand cannon that belonged to Dredgen Yor. A recent Bungie blog post told players to start the quest in the EDZ, and sure enough players need to go to where the Thorn exotic hand cannon quest starts to begin this quest as well.

Step 2: Lost Sectors and Orbs of Light

For the next step, Destiny 2 players will need to  clear specific LostSectors to find a specific rose-adorned chest. The quest will let players know which Lost Sector to loot. After that they will need to generate many Orbs of Light. In total, players will need to generate 250 Orbs of Light. Players could try their luck in Blind Well since they will be able to use their supers frequently when blessed with Harmony. An alternative is to load into the Leviathan raid and farm the Castellum since enemies continuously spawn. Once players complete this step, they will be given Rose and three new quests.

Step 4: The Three Quests

Players will be given three quests in to complete in any order. First, players must complete a Nightfall with a score of at least 50,000. Players must also earn 35 points in Blind Well, Escalation Protocol, or Black Armory Forges. The quickest is likely Blind Well as a Heroic clear grants 7 points. Lastly, players must kill 100 enemies without reloading. Popping on Sweet Business and a Heavy Machine Gun will make quick work of this, especially on low-tier enemies in Escalation Protocol or Blind Well. Otherwise players may want to make sure to stack up on the best PvE weapons in Destiny 2 to make this process as quick and painless as possible.

Step 5: Playing with Rose (As a Team)

Players will likely want to team up for this next part, as they will need to kill enemies and complete activities with Rose. Players should squad up for this because progress is accelerated if multiple players have Rose equipped.

Step 6: Kill Gambit Invaders, Guardians, and Generate More Orbs

The next quest step may be the most frustrating for players, as they will need to defeat other guardians with Hand Cannons, generate  and earn "Not On My Watch" medals in Gambit by defeating an invader before they can secure a kill. Thankfully it's only one invader kill each, so it may not take long if teams coordinate. Players may want to stack up on some of the best hand cannons in Destiny 2 to make the whole process easier, though a good deal of it will be trial and error until players can secure enough kills to purify Rose.

Step 7: Will of the Thousands and Crystals

Once players complete the PvP side of the quest, they will need to dive into a specific strike and complete a special objective, much like the Truth exotic rocket launcher quest. For the Lumina quest, players will need to complete the Will of the Thousands strike while also destroying void crystals with Rose along the way. When Season of Opulence first launched, players noticed the new crystals floating in various areas throughout the strike, and now we know that they are for.

Once the crystals have been destroyed and Xol defeated, players will be gifted with the Lumina hand cannon. This support-based hand cannon is thematically and mechanically the opposite of Thorn, making it one of Destiny 2's most interesting weapons. Hopefully this cool gun will hold players over until the new Destiny 2 exotic quest kicks off.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Google Stadia version in development.
