This week, Destiny 2 launched its latest exotic weapon quest, which sends players after Lumina. For the most part, the Lumina quest is straightforward, if a bit lengthy, but there is one task that some players might be having trouble with.

Towards the end of the Lumina exotic quest in Destiny 2, players will be given a multi-step Pursuit that asks them to kill Guardians with hand cannons in Crucible, create 50 orbs of light for teammates, and kill one Invader in Gambit. It’s this final step that can prove difficult for players since it can only be completed under very specific circumstances.

'Not on My Watch' Medal in Gambit

In order to complete the Invader step in the Lumina quest, the Destiny 2 player must get a ‘Not on My Watch’ medal. This means that the Invader must be eliminated within 10 seconds of appearing on the field and they cannot have killed any teammates. As a result, players will want to act quick and be prepared, so here are a few weapon choices that can help get the job done.

Truth Rocket Launcher

Truth is a popular choice for Gambit already, since its tracking is better than any other rocket launcher and its projectile moves very fast. If you happen to be on the wrong side of the map from the invader, you can still ADS with Truth, fire a rocket, and get a kill within that 10-second window.

Izanagi's Burden

Another popular choice is the Izanagi’s Burden exotic sniper rifle, with the Honed Edge perk active. When the enemy team has an invade ready, combine four bullets into one with the sniper rifle and then seek out the invader. While you would have to get a headshot with a normal sniper to eliminate the invader instantly, Izanagi’s Burden will make any hit a killshot. What makes Izanagi’s Burden a good choice is that it doesn’t need power ammo, so you can be prepared without fighting with teammates over the power ammo pack.

Influencing Invader Spawns

In addition to picking the right weapon, it’s important to understand how invasions work in Destiny 2’s Gambit mode. Each map typically has three spawn areas where the invader can appear. They can’t appear where you spawn, so they will either appear in the North, the West, or the East.

With that info in mind, you can try to influence where an invader spawns by occupying one of the three areas. It’s not guaranteed, but usually if you are standing near a spawn it will put the invader somewhere else, so you should only have to look in two general directions. If you’re with a full fireteam you can even directly influence where the invader spawns, right down to an exact location.

Since the Lumina quest is still new, there is a chance that the Destiny 2 community will be working on a type of honor system. Invaders know that there are opponents trying to complete the quest and so they might just rush in and try and give up a free kill. But the longer time goes on, the more likely Gambit will return to a more competitive experience and so these tips will help.

Once you’ve received the Not on My Watch medal, the hardest part of the Lumina quest is over and the exotic hand cannon is within reach. It’s a different type of weapon for Destiny 2 and one that could lead to some new strategies. Perhaps it’s a sign of things to come in Destiny 2: Shadowkeep.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
