Destiny 2 has a vast array of weapons and perks, and with each expansion, players are introduced to new gear that shakes up the game's meta. New expansions and Seasons in Destiny 2 have historically introduced new perks and new Origin Traits on new weapons, giving players incentive to grind for those god rolls. However, as players make their way through Lightfall's campaign, destination, and content, they should not overlook an old perk that has been given new life—Zen Moment.

Zen Moment is a gun perk that has existed since the early days of Destiny 2. It reduces maximum recoil angle and weapon shake on weapon hits for one second and completely removes reticle bounce when active. Initially, this perk was only marginally useful for controllers and much less useful on mouse and keyboard due to reticle bounce not being something mouse and keyboard users have to deal with. However, with Destiny 2's Lightfall expansion, Zen Moment has been improved with flinch resistance and faster stack generation, making it a viable option, especially in PvP activities.

How Zen Moment's Flinch Resistance Can Change the Crucible in Lightfall

In Destiny 2's PvE, Zen Moment can be useful when landing rapid precision kills while under fire, although its use is very niche. The flinch resistance provided by Zen Moment will allow players to stay on target and land more shots, resulting in faster enemy takedowns. Additionally, the quicker stack generation means that players can ramp up the perk's effects more quickly, making it easier to keep the player's recoil under control during prolonged firefights against all enemies of the Darkness.

Where this truly shines, however, is in Destiny 2's PvP. One-on-one shootouts often come down to who landed the most shots between half a second and two seconds. Zen Moment's now faster stack generation means that players can more quickly ramp up the perk's effects against other players. This would give them a more competitive edge and let each won engagement turn the tide of battle in their favor. The added stacking flinch resistance even helps to combat High Caliber Rounds, a magazine perk that makes players flinch more on each hit.

Destiny 2 Guns That Benefit From the New Zen Moment

Zen Moment has also been branched so that shots from different gun archetypes ramp up the effect more quickly. SMGs, auto rifles, and machine guns ramp up the effect by 1x, while pulse rifles and sidearms ramp it up by 1.5x. Meanwhile, hand cannons and scout rifles ramp up the effect by 2x.

Players should consider using Zen Moment on weapons that fall under these archetypes to maximize their effectiveness depending on the PvE activity or the Crucible map and mode. Furthermore, Zen Moment can be useful in other ways concerning players' builds. For example, precision shots are essential in generating Orbs of Power via precision kills on suspended enemies via the Thread of Wisdom Strand subclass Fragment.

Zen Moment may have been an old and overlooked perk, but with recent changes, Destiny 2 players should reconsider using guns with this trait for a little testing. Players should also consider their weapons with the perk on the gun archetypes that ramp up the perk's effects more quickly for a better effect overall. Ultimately, Zen Moment is simply more versatile than before, but the changes made to it make it one of the better perks out there for PVP, even more so when using a controller.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
