Destiny 2 developer Bungie has provided an in-depth look at some of the many changes coming to the game's established weapon crafting systems. Having originally been introduced alongside the Witch Queen expansion pack, Destiny's weapon crafting has already received several disparate updates, but the most comprehensive one is yet to come alongside the upcoming Lightfall DLC.

While Destiny 2's simplified weapon crafting has already been announced, Bungie hadn't gone into substantial details on the what and why of the upcoming changes up until now. Over the past couple of weeks, the developer has been consistently releasing more and more in-depth information on what, exactly, is coming alongside the Lightfall DLC, and the new announcement is therefore well within precedent.

According to Bungie's new weapon crafting blog post, Destiny 2 players can expect a whole slew of changes come Lightfall. The biggest change is also the simplest: only craftable weapons will be eligible to drop as Deepsight (red border) items, making them more interesting and meaningful whenever the player gets one. Bungie has also identified the fact that unique weapon crafting resources aren't integrated into the Destiny economy, and will remove them from the game entirely. Weapon crafting will now instead leverage regular resources, such as legendary shards, enhancement cores, and other such items.

Bungie's response to the Destiny 2 community's feedback on weapon crafting continues, however. In Season 21, players will have the option to apply Deepsight to specific craftable weapons, providing yet another way of unlocking crafting recipes. Better yet, players that want to upgrade a crafted weapon but don't wish to use it will be able to do so sometime after Season 21, adding more flexibility to the entire system.

Not only will leveling crafted weapons in Destiny 2 be far easier in the coming seasons, then, but Bungie has now also clarified how the system will tie in with the all-new weapon enhancement feature. Specifically, players will be able to insert enhanced Perks into Raid Adept gear, upgrading them beyond their normal capabilities. Doing so, however, will require plenty of leveling and non-insignificant amounts of resources, thereby turning already valuable Adepts into interesting long-term investments for veteran players.

With just a short time to go before the new expansion pack comes out, players are busy preparing for Destiny 2: Lightfall already. The game's final major seasonal update has been made available on February 14, providing a conclusion for both the Season of the Seraph and the Witch Queen DLC itself, and setting up the initial events of the Lightfall DLC.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S. The Lightfall expansion pack is due to launch on all platforms on February 28.
