Since the Legendary campaign in The Witch Queen expansion for Destiny 2 was so well received by players, it made sense that Bungie would do the same thing for Lightfall. Players that are used to the Classic difficulty will be in for a shock if they have not done Legendary difficulty before.

Just like with last year's campaign, the campaign for Lightfall on Legendary difficulty is no joke. Destiny 2 players will need to come prepared, as simply trying to go in with no plan nor build is a recipe for disaster. Here are some tips and tricks for how players can beat the Legendary campaign in Lightfall.

This guide contains spoilers, so players should proceed with caution.

Prioritize Add Clear

Adds, also known as additional enemies, are far more than just canon fodder in the Legendary campaign. If Destiny 2 players try to ignore them, they will be quickly overwhelmed and killed. Enemies are very aggressive and will attempt to hit players even while they are behind cover. For that reason, one of the best ways for dealing with the sheer amount of enemies is to use weapons that specialize in add clear.

One of the best options for add clear is the Exotic SMG known as Osteo Striga. With the catalyst, Osteo Striga's poison effect can spread like wildfire and kill entire packs of enemies while players hide behind cover. Not only that, but the poison effect will also overfill the magazine up to 108 rounds. Simply firing enough rounds into a pack of enemies to trigger the poison effect and then running back into cover can outright trivialize many encounters in the Legendary campaign.

Don't Get Reckless

A good add clear build is not enough for Legendary campaign, however. All enemies, bosses included, do significantly more damage when playing on Legendary difficulty. Most enemies can kill players within a few hits, especially if players have under 100 Resilience (30% damage reduction is still good, in spite of the nerf).

When taking damage, it is best to take cover sooner rather than later. Trying to push damage on a boss can result in over extending and getting killed. Legendary campaign should be considered a marathon and not a sprint. When playing with other players, being reckless can also cost revive tokens and cause a wipe. It is always better to play cautiously. Legendary campaign scales with the amount of players in the Fireteam as well.

Tormentors

While players had to deal with Hive wielding the Light last year, now they have to watch out for a brand-new enemy called Tormentors. Tormentors are massive scythe-wielding enemies that are basically bosses, even when they aren't classified as an Ultra.

While nowhere near as brutal and unforgiving as Hive Lightbearers were on Legendary difficulty, Tormentors do need to be taken seriously. Tormentors take less damage and have a lot of health. Not only that, but they are extremely aggressive and will chase players. The best way to deal with Tormentors is to stay as far away from them as possible and run away whenever they get close. When far enough away, shoot their crit spot to do more damage to them. Repeat this process until the Tormentor (or Tormentors in some cases) are dead.

Difficult Encounters in the Campaign

The difficulty of each mission will vary throughout the campaign. That said, there are a few spots that players will need to be especially careful. These missions and encounters are as follows.

  • The last encounter of Under Siege: During the fight against Vul'Ourn, players will be suppressed and will not have access to their super for the rest of the mission. Add clear is a top priority during this encounter.
  • The last encounter in Downfall: In an attempt to destroy the Radial Mast, players must spawn two orbs and dunk them into pillars. The problem, however, is all the constantly spawning Taken and Cabal enemies. Everything respawns fairly quick, so players will need to move fast once it is clear to dunk an orb. Once the timer starts, summon the Sparrow and drive through the long hallway.
  • The last encounter in No Time Left: While fighting the boss, players will need to periodically destroy the Goliath Tanks that spawn. Before that, however, the suppressors must be destroyed with Strand abilities. While going down into the chambers below to temporarily access Strand, look out for the enemies down there. They have a knock back effect that can potentially send players flying into a wall and kill them. Be mindful of positioning down there.
  • The final boss of Desperate Measures: The final battle of the campaign is very chaotic. With the bosses attacks and constantly spawning enemies, things can go wrong very quickly on Legendary difficulty. Keep moving, deal with adds, and make sure no Tormentors are still alive when defeating the boss for the first time. There is a second phase after the boss is defeated, and any Tormentors that are still alive will not despawn. Since the boss does a lot of damage, players can run into a situation where a Tormentor grabs them and then the boss one-shots them immediately after.

Destiny 2 is available now on Epic Games Store, PS4, PS5, Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
