Yet another game has been confirmed to be showcased during The Game Awards 2022 as Bungie's upcoming Destiny 2 expansion Lightfall will have a new trailer during the event. The Game Awards is just a day away from airing and hype for the awards show is growing quickly. Hints and teasers regarding what will be announced during the show are coming in fast. While Destiny 2's appearance isn't a massive surprise, it's still an exciting confirmation for fans of the online multiplayer shooter. This won't be Destiny 2's first appearance at The Game Awards. Not only has Destiny 2 been a frequent nominee, typically for its ongoing post-launch support, but to showcase the next major expansion for the game. Destiny 2: Beyond Light was featured during 2020's Game Awards and Destiny 2: The Witch Queen made an appearance during 2021's show. Destiny 2: Lightfall will cement The Game Awards as an annual event for Bungie to showcase its next major expansion or content release.RELATED: Viewers Watching The Game Awards on Twitch Will Get DropsAn appearance for Destiny 2: Lightfall during The Game Awards 2022 was confirmed via the official Twitter account for the awards show. The tweet states that Destiny 2 fans can expect a "brand new trailer" during the show. An accompanying video displays the Destiny 2: Lightfall logo. No further information regarding the upcoming reveal was shared as part of the teaser.

Destiny 2's previous Game Awards trailers have showcased gameplay for their respective upcoming expansions. The 2020 Beyond Light trailer actually followed the expansion's launch, but advertised Destiny 2's free-to-play version, and the 2021 Witch Queen trailer teased the Hive harnessing the Light to create their own Ghosts. In other words, the Lightfall trailer will likely focus on an aspect of the new expansion that stands out and makes it unique. Or, at the very least, showcase gameplay for the upcoming expansion.

Lightfall will arrive in February and The Game Awards is the last big opportunity for Bungie to showcase the game at a significant event, short of PlayStation hosting its own event early in 2023. As such, a major reveal or announcement is unlikely. This is just an opportunity for advertising the expansion. Given Destiny 2's popularity, it's still a welcome reveal, but it's unlikely to be overly shocking.

Executive producer and host Geoff Keighley has confirmed that this year's awards show will be shorter and will feature fewer announcements than most years, in response to past years' criticism. There's still a lot to be excited about at The Game Awards 2022, though. Reveals tied to Among Us, Tekken 8, Wild Hearts, Baldur's Gate 3, and now Destiny 2 should ensure it's worth watching. The Game Awards airs on December 8 with pre-show beginning at 7:30 PM ET on Twitch, YouTube, and other online streaming services.

Destiny 2: Lightfall releases February 28, 2023, on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
