Bungie has added some exciting functionality to Destiny 2's new raid Triumphs, where completing challenges in Root of Nightmares will increase the drop rate of the raid's Exotic shotgun. Destiny 2 players have been anxiously awaiting the launch of the Lightfall expansion's first raid. Root of Nightmares is now available, and with it Bungie has introduced a variety of exciting content. The new Exotic shotgun Conditional Finality is one such reward, and Bungie wants to give players every opportunity to earn it.

The Root of Nightmares raid officially launched on Friday and remains in Contest Mode as Destiny 2 players vie to complete the raid under challenging circumstances. Strategies to complete the raid's encounters, as well as methods of attaining its rewards, remain in formation. For example, at least one secret treasure chest in Root of Nightmares has been discovered. There may be more yet.

One detail that appears obvious, however, is that a new Exotic shotgun named the Conditional Finality is earnable in Root of Nightmares. It isn't a guaranteed reward, however, and the exact ways of earning it aren't entirely clear. What is confirmed is it can be granted as a reward for completing Root of Nightmares' final encounter, but there's only a chance at it dropping instead of it being a guaranteed reward. This is tradition for Destiny 2 raids, with some Destiny 2 players knowing that there's a chance of simply not getting the Exotic to drop.

Lightfall appears to address this issue in an interesting way, however. By completing Triumphs associated with Root of Nightmares challenges, players can increase their odds of having the Conditional Finality Exotic shotgun drop. Each of these specific Root of Nightmares Triumphs increases players' odds that much more. The idea being that the more Destiny 2 players complete Root of Nightmares, and the better they get at its encounters, the more likely it is they'll get the Exotic.

This is an excellent way to avoid the possibility of dedicated Destiny 2 raiders being punished by RNG through no fault of their own, all while retaining the game's randomized loot system. The Exotic shotgun may never be a guaranteed drop, but dedicated players should be rewarded for their effort.

More casual Destiny 2 players may want to wait until next week begins to delve into the Root of Nightmares, though. Contest Mode for the world's first completion race will remain active into Sunday. At that point, Destiny 2 players can begin their pursuit of the Conditional Finality for themselves.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
