Destiny 2 is getting a number of important PvP changes alongside the release of the Lightfall DLC on February 28, and Bungie has now gone on record to explain some of them. Though the game's baseline PvP experience, the Crucible, isn't getting as much attention as the PvE content gets, it's still an important aspect of the experience and will continue receiving improvements.

Due to the sheer number of weapons, abilities, and Exotic gear that Destiny 2 currently has, while continuing to add more at a brisk pace, PvP balancing is a constant struggle. The meta changes on an almost seasonal basis, and it seems that something similar is bound to happen once Lightfall hits, judging by all the changes that Bungie has just announced.

Bungie's latest TWAB came about as a follow-up to the huge Destiny 2 Lightfall build crafting blog, where many of the game's upcoming quality-of-life improvements were shown off. The TWAB, instead, talked about the many upcoming PvP improvements. One of the most important changes is that the basic Rumble PvP mode will return as a permanent option with the game's new skill-based matchmaking enabled. Airborne effectiveness is getting a number of buffs, too, and Bungie promised that setting up a dedicated aerial build should feel more rewarding and reliable in general.

Pulse rifles and SMGs are getting major tune-ups, too. Pulse rifle fans will find that the weapons will be slightly less effective at extremely long ranges. Mouse and keyboard users, in particular, will need to contend with 20% more recoil, which could prove particularly interesting. SMGs, on the other hand, are getting a number of changes to make them more performant in close-quarters situations, as well as some small nerfs at longer ranges. Destiny 2's Dead Man's Tale and Dead Messenger Exotics will be tuned separately from other gear, reducing their general potency due to them being overly oppressive in PvP.

Whereas players won't see any changes made to Destiny 2's Iron Banner before the next season, regular Crucible is getting a number of ability changes on January 24. According to Bungie, class ability uptime has ballooned over the past year, and the PvP team is looking to reign it in by increasing the base cooldown of the Barricade, Thruster, and Dodge class abilities by 20%

Players hoping to see Halo's Forge Mode in Destiny 2 will need to keep their hopes up, then, but the slew of changes coming to the game's PvP modes should make the experience far more palatable across the board. It remains to be seen whether they pan out, as it's hard to predict the game's meta so long in advance, but Bungie already said that it's working on large-scale ability balance tuning that it will share more about "in the near future."

Destiny 2 is now available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
