Sony has heavily discounted Destiny 2's new Lightfall expansion, bringing it down to its lowest price yet, but only on PlayStation consoles. While Lightfall has proven to be another controversial expansion for Destiny 2, it's still quite popular. As such, some Destiny 2 players may have seen the response at launch and decided to wait for a sale. That opportunity has now arrived, but only for those on PlayStation.Lightfall has proven to be one of Destiny 2's most controversial expansions yet. On the day of Lightfall's launch, Destiny 2 set a record for concurrent players on Steam. The success of The Witch Queen expansion and its seasonal content paid off. Yet there was a cost for that popularity. Lightfall's reviews on Steam quickly averaged out as "Mostly Negative" as players decided they were unhappy with the expansion's campaign. Still, over 180,000 Destiny 2 players are logging in to play Destiny 2 a day on Steam.RELATED: Watch a Destiny 2 Lightfall Player Beat the New Raid Boss SoloThose wanting to see what Lightfall is all about can now do so at a discounted price on PlayStation consoles. A limited-time sale is being held for Destiny 2: Lightfall, dropping the price of the expansion from $49.99 to $33.49. A discount is also applied to the Lightfall + Annual Pass bundle, though it's just 25% instead of 33%. It can be purchased for $74.99 instead of $99.99 and includes the full year of Lightfall content that Bungie has planned.

If some interested players would rather pick up the previous Destiny 2 expansions first, or alongside Lightfall, the Destiny 2: Legacy Collection bundle is also on sale. The Destiny 2: Legacy Collection bundle includes Shadowkeep, Beyond Light, and The Witch Queen, the three premium expansions prior to Lightfall and most of the content players need to "catch up." It's discounted by 50%, from $59.99 down to $29.99.

The sale won't last forever, though. The discount on Destiny 2 expansions for PlayStation platforms will run from now through April 12, so it has two weeks remaining. That should be plenty of time to decide whether to jump into Destiny 2, whether as a returning or new player. Once the sale is done, though, it's unclear when Sony will discount Lightfall again.

As for why Destiny 2: Lightfall and the Legacy Collection are only discounted on PlayStation consoles, there's no confirmed explanation. What makes sense is that PlayStation owns Bungie and wants Destiny 2 players on PlayStation consoles. Using a PlayStation-exclusive sale is one way to attract players who might be considering other platforms, instead. At least Destiny 2 supports cross-progression now.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
