Destiny 2’s Lightfall expansion is scheduled to have two dungeons released before the next major expansion, so they will be here relatively soon. It’s a safe assumption that the Cabal will take the bench for a little while after their featured appearance throughout the Lightfall campaign and Season of Defiance’s story, so the community is currently awaiting to see which enemies will feature in Destiny 2’s next dungeon. Another thing worth mentioning is how many loose ends exist from the just Lightfall expansion alone that the community is eager to have some closure for.

One of the most neglected enemy types in Destiny 2 is the Hive Lightbearers. Outside of the expansion that introduced them, these enemies have had very few appearances. The first Dungeon for the Lightfall expansion will likely drop with seasonal content related to the Hive in Destiny 2's Season of the Deep, so it's a likely chance that the Hive, in general, will take the spotlight again in the near future. As Destiny 2 draws nearer to The Final Shape expansion that will end the Light and Darkness saga, a lot of the current enemies and characters will be making some major appearances in the upcoming content before their stories potentially come to an end.

Hive

Aside from Hive Lightbearers, recent Destiny 2 leaks have revealed that the Hive in general will be making a profound appearance in the near future. Back in the Witch Queen's campaign, Savathun's riddles prophesied that old planets will be returning within the Traveler's reach, and one particular moon still has a lot of Hive secrets to uncover. A long time ago, one of Saturn’s Moons, Titan, was an available destination in Destiny 2, and Guardians still have unfinished business there. The biggest secret that Titan withheld was the Hive Worm God that occupies Titan’s oceans. Titan could ultimately be where the Guardians finally face off with Xivu Arath, for example.

Scorn

In addition to introducing Hive Lightbearers, the Witch Queen expansion also brought the Scorn back into the scene. Ever since the Forsaken expansion went into the Destiny 2 Content Vault, the Scorn have had a rather minimal presence in the game. Before the Witch Queen expansion, the Scorn were limited to existing in the Dreaming City, though now they can be found throughout Savathun's Throne World as well. The reappearance of Scorn could very well be leading up to a large-scale encounter in upcoming content for Destiny 2.

Black Garden Vex

The recent Exotic quest for the Deterministic Chaos heavy machine gun set the stage for Lightfall to potentially make a return to the Black Garden, meaning more Vex. It's been a while since Destiny 2's story did an in-depth exploration of the time-traveling capabilities of the Vex enemies, which leaves the perfect opportunity to revisit the Black Garden in Lightfall. Deterministic Chaos isn’t the only Exotic quest that’s been building up an epic encounter with the Vex, but also Asher Mir and the Vexcalibur Exotic glaive quest.

Cloudstriders and Neomunians

This speculation may be more conspiracy compared to the previous possibilities, but Cloudstriders and Neomunians still have a possible chance of being enemies in Destiny 2's future content. Lightfall's campaign introduced the citizens and warriors of Neptune’s Neomuna and established some canon concerning their presence in the game's universe. The Destiny 2 community now knows that Neomunians exist in the Veil's digitized cloud network and that Lightfall's Cloudstrider warriors always come in pairs of two. Since the Witness commandeered the Veil and there is only one Cloudstrider in play, the Witness could potentially be influencing these characters behind the scenes. Considering the existence of Hive Lightbearers and Taken enemies in the Destiny universe, it's possible that the Witness' recent actions concerning the Veil could lead to a newfound enemy of the Guardians.

Destiny 2 is available now on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
