After all of the teases and excitement over the past few months, Bungie's highly anticipated Destiny 2 showcase finally revealed new details about the next expansion known as Lightfall. Recent Destiny 2 leaks and even some accidental reveals prior to the announcement started to give fans a picture of what sort of content the expansion could contain. However, the expansion's initial reveal trailer held plenty of secrets which fans likely never saw coming.

At the start of the trailer, Destiny 2 fans saw a massive city lit up in neon colors, which Bungie would later confirm to be located on Neptune. However, it wouldn't be long until the familiar voice of Calus, former Cabal Emperor, loomed as the pyramid ships infiltrated the sky box. Calus' voice eventually gives way to the mysterious figure known as The Witness, who appears to be watching the invasion force take one a Guardian Fire team.

One of the biggest reveals in this trailer is the new abilities used by the guardian team. As hinted at in an accidental artwork leak, Bungie calls the new Darkness powers as Strand that is more akin to an evolution of the psychic abilities players got access to in the Witch Queen expansion. Hunters gain a rope dart super, Titans gain area effect claws, and Warlocks have a sort of psychic barrage attack. One of the biggest changes with Strand is the movement capabilities, which showcased a grappling hook style system allowing for swinging to different platforms.

Players will no doubt need these new Strand abilities as Calus and the Witness are bringing with them new enemy types to face off against. The Destiny 2 cinematic trailer shows off a Cabal variant called the Shadow Legion, who come with an all new armor set and abilities to help set them apart. Bungie later teased a new enemy class called Tormentors, who come directly from the Darkness pyramid ships, offering a new challenge for players to deal with.

In addition to Lightfall content, the Destiny 2 Showcase also confirmed Season of Plunder, which launches later today. The news likely won't be too surprising as Destiny 2 dataminers revealed a good chunk of season 18 and its upcoming content such as the return of Eramis, last seen in Beyond Light. Players will be working with Spider, Drifter, Mithrax, and boarding enemy spaceships for hunting down treasure in a season that Bungie calls a big adventure.

Destiny 2 is currently available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia.
