The latest trailer for Destiny 2 Lightfall debuts at The Game Awards, giving fans their best look yet at the 5 subclass known as Strand. The new trailer probably isn't too surprising considering days earlier, The Game Awards confirmed that a new Destiny 2 Lightfall trailer would debut, though the content itself gave fans a fresh look at a number of new elements in the expansion including the Neptune city of Neuroma, the Cabal Shadow Legion, as well as plenty of new Strand abilities.

Strand is the latest subclass getting added to Destiny 2, joining Stasis, Arc, Void, and Solar. Fans were tipped off to the existence of a new subclass thanks to a Destiny 2 screenshot leak prior to the Lightfall showcase over the summer. Fans got an early look at the possibilities including a new grapple mechanic which appears to really allow for more creative movement and traversal options. While it's been a while since fans got an update, Bungie fixed that at The Game Awards with an extended gameplay trailer of Lightfall.

The Destiny 2 trailer begins with a voiceover from Osiris before kicking into high gear as a Hunter backflips down off a building with a slow motion shot similar to Into the Spider-Verse. Upon landing with a devastating explosive blast, the trailer shifts to explosive combat set in the neon lights of Neptune. A fire team of three Guardians wreak havoc on the Shadow Legion using new weapons including a grenade launcher, pulse rifle, and sniper rifle.

However, the star of the trailer is clearly Strand, which is featured prominently throughout. Fans saw a Hunter use the grapple mechanic to latch on to a Thundercrash super using Titan, acting as a new way of moving about the map before releasing to drop in on unsuspecting enemies. The Titan also activates their super, giving them sword arms as they slash through enemies, while Warlocks send seeker missiles to decimate the Cabal. Based on the trailer alone, players will likely have a lot of movement and control style options when using Strand against their enemies.

Fans are hoping that Lightfall will be the spark that the game sorely needs, as some Destiny 2 players have seemingly grown fatigued of the seasonal model that the game has adopted. Thankfully, Bungie is aware of how fans are feeling, as Destiny 2 Game Director Joe Blackburn addressed it in a series of Twitter posts. Blackburn admitted it'll take time for the Destiny 2 team to adapt, but the studio is actively looking at ways to freshen up the experience starting with Season 20 and beyond.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
