Ever since the King's Fall raid in The Taken King expansion of Destiny 1, fans have come to expect Challenge Modes in the game's raids. That is, an objective during a raid encounter that requires players to complete the section in a unique way, oftentimes rewarding exclusive or better loot.

While most Destiny 2 players already figured that Challenge Modes would be coming to the Leviathan raid - raid-specific emblems were spotted in the game's database - this is the first time Bungie has acknowledged their existence. Furthermore, it appears that Challenge Modes could even make their debut very soon.

Bungie teased that Leviathan's Challenge Modes will be coming soon in the developer's weekly blog, tacking it onto the end of their discussion about the Prestige Mode of the raid that will debut next week:

"This isn’t the only upcoming raid news. We will be back next week to tell you about Raid Challenges that have been designed to make you rethink familiar encounters."

With the Prestige Mode launching next week, the doors are open for Bungie to deploy Challenge Modes any time into Destiny 2's raid (Traditionally, Challenge Modes have come after the release of the harder version of the raid). Fans will likely be given a date when they will arrive in next week's blog from Bungie, with the first opportunity for Challenges to appear following weekly reset on October 24.

That also coincides with the release of the PC version of Destiny 2, so who knows if Bungie would pick the same day to add something new to the console version of the game (the PC version won't even have the normal mode raid unlocked at that point, coming at a later date just as it did on consoles).

However, considering that Bungie had originally planned to release the Prestige Mode raid this week on top of Iron Banner, the developer has shown it's not afraid to stack up on the release of new activities. Either way, these questions will likely be answered next Thursday in the "This Week at Bungie" blog.

Destiny 2 is available now for PS4 and Xbox One, and releases on October 24, 2017 for PC.
