Shortly before Destiny 2’s Black Armory launched, developer Bungie gave fans a closer look at almost all of the exotic weapons that are included with the DLC add-on. However, what the studio didn’t say was how to acquire any of these weapons – leaving that for players to find out.

Thus far, Destiny 2 players have discovered that the Anarchy grenade launcher is a rare drop from the final encounter in the Scourge of the Past raid. Like with One Thousand Voices, players have a small chance of getting the exotic with each boss defeat (per character). And now, Bungie has confirmed how to get the Le Monarque exotic bow.

According to Bungie, Le Monarque can drop from any powerful frame completion during a forge run. The exotic bow will simply drop like any other piece of loot, but only if the player is working on a powerful frame.

To be clear, powerful frames are the ones that scale with the player’s power level. These are the two weapons that are first available from Ada-1 in the Black Armory at the start of a new week – any subsequent forges do not count as “powerful.”

With three forges now open in Destiny 2, the game should have a variety of frames to offer players in Ada's two slots each week. However, players will need to ensure they unlock each forge on each character, so that they have as many chances at Le Monarque as possible. Unlocking the Izanami Forge, for example, is quite the task, so it’s better to chip away now than to leave it off.

As far as why players might want to work towards obtaining Le Monarque, Bungie bills it as the Destiny 2 version of Thorn. The bow puts DOT (damage over time) damage on enemies, and can make enemies explode into poisonous gas with a precision kill. Combined with the Hunter’s Oathkeeper gauntlets, Le Monarque seems to be a formidable choice for bow fans.

Destiny 2: Black Armory is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
