Following the start of season 17, Destiny 2's raids are now on a weekly rotation. Whichever old raid is in rotation for a specific week will drop high stat armor at the final encounter, as well as reward players with Pinnacle loot.

This is a fantastic way to get players interested in older raids again, such as Last Wish, which is notorious for some of its more obscure mechanics and its longest first-day completion time. That said, years after the release of the Forsaken DLC, Destiny 2 players have all the tools in their hands to deal with this raid and slay Riven of a Thousand Voices.

6 Equip The Taken Spec Mod

A Titan uses Hammer Strike on a Taken Captain during an Astral Alignment activity in Destiny 2.

This tip is specific for players who have already completed Last Wish previously a long time ago and may have forgotten about a nice little weapon mod called Taken Spec. This mod drops from the raid itself and is incredibly powerful against Taken enemies when applied to weapons. In fact, it's better than Minor Spec, as long as the enemies are Taken.

The Taken Spec mod is useful in almost every part of the raid but will be particularly helpful during encounters like Kalli and Shuro-Chi, where players need to clear ads to stay alive or to complete the encounter mechanic. Apply it on a weapon using primary ammo and players should be good to go.

5 Assign Numbers During The Shuro-Chi Encounter

Destiny 2 Shuro-Chi Fight from the Last Wish Raid

Shuro-Chi is a relatively simple encounter that has players clearing ads quickly and then dealing high burst damage to the boss. However, in-between the three floors of this encounter, players will need to complete a puzzle with plates, which can be tough to do with a time limit.

An easy way to counter any wasted time is to assign four people in the raid a number from 1 to 4. Each round of the plate puzzle will require players to activate four plates. By having a numbered order, players will always know which plate to stand on. For example, player 1 will always stand on the first missing plate from left to right and top to bottom, player 2 will stand on the second missing plate from left to right and top to bottom, etc.

Sometimes this strategy results in a player standing on the same plate twice. If a player realizes they have already stood on a plate, they can ask to switch with one of the two players who are clearing ads in the room.

4 Linear Fusion Rifles Are Best For Boss DPS

Destiny 2 Cataclysmic Linear Fusion Rifle

The Last Wish raid's encounter bosses are all similar in the sense that they are susceptible to precision damage. In season 17 and most likely beyond, players can use linear fusion rifles like Cataclysmic and Stormchaser to deal massive damage to Kalli, Shuro-Chi, and Morgeth. This strat also works for Riven but may be harder to execute due to Riven's gigantic health pool.

If players have no Cataclysmic, they can also use snipers like Izanagi's Burden. Reed's Regret is equally a nice linear fusion rifle choice that can work well so long as players have the Firing Line perk on their weapon. Fireteams that are struggling with damage can up their DPS by equipping secondary weapons with the Vorpal Weapon perk or using the Arbalest if they have an empty Exotic slot. Even with its nerf, it remains a decent pairing to Legendary heavy weapons.

3 Use Easy Callouts In The Vault Encounter

Destiny 2 Last Wish Vault Encounter

The Vault encounter in the Last Wish raid is the real challenge to any fireteam's teamwork. Players will once again deal with a time limit while communicating symbols and figuring out which type of energy, Antumbra or Penumbra, their plate needs to be cleansed with. All the while, they will have to fight ads and prevent knights from slamming their swords into these plates.

The important callouts for this encounter are Antumbra and Penumbra. Using these shortened callouts will clear comms in an otherwise hectic encounter. Since both ANT and PEN need to appear at least once, if one has already appeared twice, then players can simply assume the last one will be the one that hasn't appeared yet. This is a good time-saver.

  • The middle symbol called out is on the right side = Antumbra = "ANT"
  • The middle symbol called out is on the left side = Penumbra = "PEN"

Another way to clear comms is to ensure everyone is on board with the room callouts. Each plate has a room behind it, and each has a name based on what's in the room: Stairs, Rock and Tree. Players fetching the Taken Essence can simply be told which side is open by being told these room names.

2 The Best Way To Beat Riven Is To Cheese Her

Riven Entering One of The Amphitheaters

Most players should be familiar with the Riven cheese by now, but in case they are not, it is by far the best way to complete Last Wish's final boss encounter. Riven in itself is a complex encounter with many moving parts, but the cheese approach makes this encounter quick and efficient for a fireteam of any experience level. The only catch is that the team must be prepared to output a ton of damage either way.

Start the encounter normally and have everyone head inside the same crystal room. Check the black window at the front of the room, and if players spot a moving shadow, it means the "correct" Riven will appear here and they can do damage to her. If her shadow doesn't appear, players should return to the previous chamber and hug the black crystal wall until a message "joining allies" appears on the screen.

From here, head down the drop located behind a tree on the player's right side, which will take them down into a round room. At the back of the room, there's another drop further downstairs, where Riven will appear with all of her eyes shot and players can deal damage to her. If she appears in this bottom room, players will have a much shorter damage phase, so it's worth resetting until she appears in the first crystal room.

1 Drop Riven's Heart In Easy Locations For Smooth Transition

Destiny 2 Guardian Carrying Rivens Heart In Queenswalk

The final encounter of Last Wish brings players on a trek through Queenswalk while carrying Riven's heart. It's a straightforward and simple encounter that requires players to know the rough direction of the path, as well as communicate with each other how much time they have left on the Fate's Chosen status.

The best quality of life strategy here is that players should try to leave Riven's Heart for the next player at an easy location. This will make transitioning the heart to the next person easier. Be particularly careful not to drop the Heart while going down the last elevator for the final player, as they might not be able to catch it in time while falling. It's actually better to stand still for a few seconds in an easy location and drop the heart there than to get maximum distance and potentially mess up the transition.

Destiny 2 is available on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Stadia.
