At this point in King's Fall, Destiny 2 players have overcome all challenges that stood in their way. After killing the Deathsingers, all that remains is for them to come face to face with the Taken King himself, Oryx.

While Oryx may look absolutely intimidating, players may immediately notice that a lot of mechanics that are present in the final boss of the raid are very similar to ones they've already experienced throughout the previous encounters. This guide will go through those mechanics, as well as the ones unique to Oryx so that Destiny 2 players will be ready to fight the Taken King and emerge victorious.

Preparation

As has been very consistent with the rest of the raid, solar subclasses will be very useful here. Warlocks should make sure to be running Well of Radiance to help boost damage for their fellow players during the damage phase.

Solar Titans will have no trouble tearing through all the adds (additional enemies) that spawn throughout this encounter. Linear Fusion Rifles and Sniper Rifles will be very useful in this encounter for dealing damage to Oryx.

For the most part, any weapon that Destiny 2 players used to clear the other encounters of King's Fall will be effective here. While Oryx has a massive crit spot, Divinity can be useful during this encounter as well.

Oryx, the Taken King Guide

destiny-2-oryx-guide3

In order to start the fight, one player in the team will need to approach the orb on the far end of the room and touch it. Oryx will emerge, and the encounter will begin. Adds will spawn, and Destiny 2 players will need to clear them out so that they can have some breathing room.

In addition to the small fry adds, Taken Knights will spawn on the four plates and will need to be killed. After the knights are killed, Oryx will move toward one of the plates in the room. He will slam it with his fist and the plate will begin to glow like it did in the previous encounter.

Destiny 2 players may immediately recognize some mechanics from the Daughters of Oryx encounter, as one player will randomly be Torn Between Dimensions (torn for short).

As before, one player will need to stand on the plate to create platforms for the torn player. This player will be able to see where the next platform in the sequence is, and another player will need to stand on that to spawn more platforms.

Players will need to work towards gathering three pieces of the Blightguard in order to begin the damage phase. Once a piece of the Blightguard has been claimed, the Destiny 2 players that are on plates should get off immediately so that they don't die. This is where the encounter begins to differ from the previous one.

Light-Eating Ogres and Knights

Once Destiny 2 players begin to gather the pieces of the Blightguard, four Light-Eating Ogres will spawn next to the plates throughout the room. Players should kill them as quickly as possible and keep an eye on where these ogres die, as a bomb will spawn at that location.

Players should take care to leave these bombs alone until it is time to damage Oryx. The bombs will also need to be protected from Light-Eating Knights that will spawn periodically as pieces of the Blightguard are gathered. These knights will run towards one of the bombs that have spawned and attempt to eat it. If they succeed, players will have fewer bombs to detonate during the damage phase which means they will have less time to do damage. For this reason, Destiny 2 players should make sure to kill these knights as quickly as possible.

How to Start the Damage Phase

destiny-2-oryx-guide5

Just like with the Daughters of Oryx encounter, the third piece of the Blightguard will need to be picked up with a button prompt. The player who picks up the third piece will gain the Brand Claimer buff that has shown up several times in the raid so far. By this point, another unique Hive Knight will spawn that is called the Vessel of Oryx.

This knight has an aura that protects it from damage. Fortunately, the aura can be stolen by the player that has the Brand Claimer buff. Once the aura has been taken, players should kill the Vessel of Oryx immediately.

Upon Destiny 2 players killing the Vessel, Oryx will slam the plate that he is closest to. At this time four players should make sure to get ready to move toward the bombs. Players will see a message in the lower left-hand corner of the screen that says: "Oryx calls upon the Darkness."

This is Oryx's big attack that will kill all players if he is not stunned. In order to stun him, the players near a bomb will need to stand next to it until they see a message in the lower left-hand corner of the screen that says: "[Player Name] has detonated a Corrupted Light."

Once they see that message, the players activating the bombs should run back into the aura. Oryx will be stunned when the bombs go off, and his attempt to kill the entire party will fail.

While Oryx is stunned, his chest will open, and Destiny 2 players will see a massive glowing area that is his crit spot. Players should take this opportunity to unload as much damage into Oryx as possible. Each bomb that is detonated gives players a longer damage phase. After a while, Oryx will recover from the stun and will choose one of two attacks to unleash upon the players in retaliation.

Between Phases

After recovering from the stun, Oryx will move toward the front of the room. At that point he will either teleport players into a small space where they have to fight a Shade of Oryx, or he will use an attack that will make players continuously blow up.

For the Shade of Oryx, players inside will need to watch the walls to see where the shade will emerge. Once the Shade of Oryx is killed, players will be teleported back to the boss arena. If Oryx instead uses the second attack, players will need to stay away from each other and be constantly moving in order to not die from the continuous series of explosions.

Whichever attack is used, Destiny 2 players should make sure to clear off the Taken Knights that spawn on the plates, and they will go back to the gathering of Blightguard pieces phase.

Last Stand

destiny-2-oryx-guide7

As is a common trend for bosses in Destiny 2 raids, Oryx has a Last Stand phase. This is the end of the encounter, and players will either kill Oryx or die. When it starts, Oryx will move to the front of the room. Two more Light-Eating Ogres will spawn and players will need to kill them in order to proceed. This will spawn two bombs that can be used.

After players kill the ogres, Oryx will call upon the Darkness. Players only need to use one bomb to stun Oryx, but if they can't do enough damage to kill him then they can use the second bomb to stun him again. If players manage to do enough damage before they run out of bombs to keep Oryx stunned, then they will have successfully defeated the Taken King and completed the King's Fall raid.

Destiny 2 is now available for Epic Games Store, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Steam, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S.
