Iron Banner is active this week in Destiny 2, the first time it has been active in Season 8, bringing with it a new armor set for each class. But one of the common complaints among fans since the week-long PvP event began is that the Iron Banner has only been circulating through three maps, limiting players to Twilight Gap, Widow's Court, and Fragment. But Bungie is changing that up soon.

Bungie said today that the developer intentionally set the Iron Banner playlists to include only the new maps introduced in Destiny 2's Shadowkeep expansion in order to showcase them. However, all that changes on Thursday, October 17th when more maps will be added to Iron Banner.

While Bungie did not specify exactly how many maps would be rotating into the Iron Banner playlist, it will likely be similar to events in the past. Included with the tweet that Bungie made the announcement, the developer included a screenshot of Bannerfall with the Iron Banner capture point. While it's another larger map like Twilight Gap and Widow's Court, that might be good for the players who are chasing the Crucible's new ritual weapon (Destiny 2 no longer has uber-powerful pinnacle weapons each season), the scout rifle Randy's Throwing Knife.

Outside of the changes to maps and the pursuit of Randy's Throwing Knife (which can be progressed outside of Iron Banner as well), players have a new seasonal pursuit quest in Iron Banner that is the avenue by which they will unlock the full armor set for this season. While drops can still occur post-match while in the middle of the quest, players cannot turn in tokens to Lord Saladin for Iron Banner packages until the quest has been completed.

As players have jumped into Iron Banner this week, they have discovered that the Iron Banner quest is bugged in one of its objectives; however, Bungie confirmed a workaround that probably actually makes completing that step a bit easier than what it says to do. In addition, the Iron Banner playlist is a source for pinnacle rewards (which can take players up to 960 past the 950 Power cap that is on powerful reward sources) as well as Enhanced mods for Armor 2.0.

Iron Banner is currently active and will end upon the weekly reset on October 22nd.

Destiny 2: Shadowkeep is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One, with a Stadia version also in development.
