Iron Banner, the monthly PvP event that has been a classic staple of Destiny will return to Destiny 2 in October, according to the game’s developer Bungie. The event, which has traditionally been active for one week out of every month, converts one of the Crucible playlists into a special version of itself, turning on level advantages and giving out exclusive rewards that can only be earned during Iron Banner week.

Iron Banner will no longer appear in Destiny 1 with the last week of it in the original game having been in August, so Destiny 2 will be the only way to play the event. Bungie made the announcement in its weekly blog update:

In October, new challenges will continue to arrive, including Iron Banner[…].

It’s unknown exactly how Iron Banner will work in Destiny 2, now with the playlists in the game being consolidated into two playlists, Quick Play and Competitive. When Iron Banner first debuted in Destiny, it was always the Control gametype, but through the years it spread out to include other modes including Clash, Rift, and Mayhem.

Another question will be what vendor players will host the Iron Banner. Until Year 3, Iron Banner was hosted by Lord Saladin who would appear in the closed off upper section of the Tower, but once Rise of Iron was released, Lady Efrideet became the new vendor appearing on Felwinter Peak.

These and other questions remain about Iron Banner, but Bungie said it will let fans know what will be coming with Iron Banner ahead of time. Until then, however, fans will be left to speculate if the Iron Banner will include multiple modes or just one selected mode as it always has been in the original game, what gear will be available (some of which is believed to be adorning the Hunter in the picture above), level progression, and more.

Those players wanting a competitive PvP experience before Iron Banner won’t have to wait until October. Trials of the Nine, renamed from Trials of Osiris, is the other mode that turns on level advantages in PvP. It debuts on September 15, and will rotate each week between the Countdown and Survival game modes.

Destiny 2 is available now on PS4 and Xbox One, and releases on October 24, 2017 for PC.
