While Destiny 2 developer Bungie will be taking a break to celebrate the holidays, its players should not be wanting for things to do through the New Year. It started this week with the launch of the Dawning holiday event and continues with the Izanagi Forge unlocking on Tuesday, but now Bungie has confirmed the first Iron Banner of Season 5 will start on December 25th.

Alongside Iron Banner, Bungie will offer increased Valor gains throughout every Crucible playlist. Double Valor will be active for the weekdays (Dec. 25-28) and then it will kick up to triple Valor through reset (Dec. 28-Jan. 1).

As far as rewards are concerned, Iron Banner will have new armor sets to collect for Destiny 2 Season 5. While past Iron Banner gear has been more ostentatious in its design, these latest sets are more subdued.

season 5 random roll weapons for IB

This month’s Iron Banner is also bringing back two Year 1 weapons from the loot pool, the Hero’s Burden submachine gun and the Crimil’s Dagger hand cannon. The key difference this time around is that the weapons will feature random perk rolls, so those players that liked the archetype of the weapons but not the perks will be able to customize their choices…or at least farm the weapons until they get the right roll.

While Iron Banner can be hit or miss for players, this upcoming one is sure to command some attention from the entire Destiny 2 player base. After turning every bounty into a powerful reward, Bungie made it so that Iron Banner is a great way to increase one’s power level at work towards the new cap.

For some players, Iron Banner will be what gets them to raid ready status, so they can finally tackle the new Scourge of the Past raid included with Black Armory. However, Iron Banner is not locked behind the annual pass and is free for everyone to participate.

Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
